Update: Arkane has confirmed that Deathloop will launch on PlayStation 5 and PC on May 21, 2021, as well as released a short, new trailer, which you can watch below:
Original story below:
Deathloop, Arkane and Bethesda’s timed PlayStation 5 exclusive timeloop shooter, seems to have a release date, although as of this writing, that news is coming from every other reliable source that isn’t either the developer or publisher.
According to the game’s listing on the PlayStation Store, Deathloop will launch on PlayStation 5 on May 21 of next year. Presumably, the PC version will be launching then as well, but until there’s an official confirmation from Arkane, we won’t know for sure if both the PS5 and PC versions will launch on the same day. Alongside the inclusion of a release date, a listing for a digital Deluxe Edition has also been posted to the PlayStation Store and includes the following:
- Deathloop game
- Transtar Trencher Weapon
- Eat The Rich Tribunal Weapon
- .44 Karat Fourpounder Weapon
- “Party Crasher” Colt Skin
- “Sharp Shooter” Julianna Skin
- Two Trinkets (equippable buffs)
- Original Game Soundtrack Selections
Given that Deathloop was meant to be a PlayStation 5 launch window game, it seems like today, the day the system has come out, would be a good day to put a release date out into the world following its delay back in August. According to Arkane’s statement on the matter, Deathloop had to be pushed into next year due to issues the studio had been having during development while working from home in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
“…the health and safety of everyone at Arkane Lyon remains our top priority,” the studio said in the announcement. “As we’ve adjusted to work-from-home, we found that delivering this new and exciting experience, at the pois hand quality level that defines both an Arkane game and a true next-gen experience, is taking longer than normal.”

Deathloop is one of the Bethesda games in the works right now that exists in a weird limbo state from before Bethesda was acquired by Microsoft to the tune of $7.5 billion. The timed-exclusivity deal between Bethesda and Sony was already in place before any talks between Microsoft and it were finalized, so the plan is still for Deathloop to come to PlayStation 5 before any Xbox consoles get it. The same will be true of GhostWire: Tokyo, which is in development over at Tango Gameworks, and will be a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive for a year after it launches in 2021. As for what comes next for Bethesda projects, we’ll see as the company puts out more games that are being developed after the deal’s been made rather than before and during. Double Fine recently had a similar situation with Psychonauts 2, which was crowdfunded under the pretense that it would come to PlayStation as well as PC and Xbox, so when the studio was acquired last year, it was confirmed the game would still be coming to PlayStation 4. There’s no word on whether it will come to PlayStation 5, but regardless of whether or not it gets a dedicated port, it will still be playable on the system through backwards compatibility.
