Sony had their first big show of the summer with a State of Play stream this week. Announced a few days ago, the first-party platform holder cautioned that the stream would largely be about Bethesda Games’ (now a Microsoft subsidiary) Deathloop, but there would also be news about some indie and third-party titles.
So what did you miss from the show? We got you covered.
- Moss: Book II, a sequel to the PlayStation VR fairy tale game about a swashbuckling mouse. The praised game was a jewel of the PSVR lineup from its 2018 release.
- Arcadegeddon, a new multiplayer shooter from Predator: Hunting Grounds developer Illfonic, is shown off. Looks a lot like Fortnite! If that seems like a simple observation to you, then you got as much out of the description as I did out of the trailer.
- F.I.S.T. — which stands for Forged In Shadow Torch, for the record — is a 2D indie action game starring anthropomorphic with a brand new trailer. The game hits PS4 and PS5 on September 7.
- Tribes of Midgard, which is not, as I thought, a pre-scifi version of the Tribes series like how Warhammer and Warhammer 40K both exist in the same series, gets a trailer detailing the season one content for the game.
- 30-player battle royale Hunter’s Arena: Legends gets a trailer showing off the focus on melee and fighting game principles. The title’s currently in Early Access on Steam to, uh, mixed reviews. It is one of the PlayStation+ games for next month.
- From the developers of Absolver, the martial arts-based Sifu gets a cool trailer explaining its aging premise. With it, though, the trailer confirms a delay from 2021 to 2022.
- Jett: The Far Shore, the new game from the developers of Swords & Sorcery, gets its first gameplay reveal since the announcement last year.
- Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles, a game based on the hit anime, is coming to PS5 in October with an Adventure mode trailer.
- Lost Judgment, the newest game from the RGG Studio that makes all the Yakuza games, gets an English-dubbed trailer ahead of its September release.
- Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding presented by Hideo Kojima in a Director’s Cut (Hideo Kojima is the director) gets a new trailer that shows a host of new content for the PS5 version, including: race tracks, a robot buddy you can ride, improved melee mechanics, and lots and lots of shooting.
- Finally, things end with an extended look at Deathloop, Microsoft’s Bethesda’s Arkane’s new time-loop stylizing action game. An entire nine minutes was dedicated to showing off a mission, which seems to blend Dishonored and Hitman with multiplayer assassination pressure.
