Dead by Daylight is branching out with a new Resident Evil crossover, featuring some very familiar, friendly, and not so friendly faces. The latest DBD chapter is set to release June 15. At which point we’ll receive two of my personal favorite Resident Evil. heroes: Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine.
It’s interesting that Capcom only chose to use Leon (specifically his Resident Evil 2 look) and Jill (in her Resident Evil 3 attire) to represent the Survivors. There were a plethora of characters to pick from the Resident Evil universe. In RE2, Leon’s counterpart was the protective babysitter Claire. Whereas RE3 let you simply choose between Jill or Carlos Oliveira. The choice for Jill and Leon might be due to the long-lasting rivalry between the Umbrella Corporation and the defenders of Raccoon City. Regardless, I am personally excited that the creators chose to stick with the S.T.A.R.S. of the show (wink, wink).

In Dead by Daylight, four Survivors battle a single Killer. Survivors are helpless; their job is to avoid the Killer while repairing generators throughout a spooky map. Doing so without getting got allows them to escape and fight another day. A new map for Dead by Daylight, based on the Racoon City Police Department from RE2, will also launch alongside Leon and Jill.
The Survivors of this DBD crossover come equipped with handy skills that set them apart from other characters, too. Jill can attach a mine to any generator, which triggers an explosion that blinds the Killer. Meanwhile, Leon has a perk that spreads flashbangs around the map, acting as a valuable distraction. Flashbangs may prevent a Killer from hanging Survivors on sacrificial meat hooks, or just generally disorient them if utilized well.
Like in RE3 games, you will be able to play as a Survivor on the run from Nemesis. The big brute, keeping true to some of his attributes from the Resident Evil games, can infect survivors with the T-Virus using his tentacle — which even spawns A.I.-controlled zombies. Once infected, your character succumbs to coughs, which further alerts the Killer of your whereabouts. Thankfully, there are a limited number of T-Virus vaccines scattered throughout the map. Survivors will either have to make a call early on or save the precious asset for later in the round to cure themselves of the virus.
Dead By Daylight is no stranger to crossovers like this. Other games like Silent Hill and Left 4 Dead have already made their way into the horror game multiverse. It’s a no-brainer that the godparent of zombie games finally got its invite to the monster mash, just in time to give Resident Evil Village players something else to gnaw on.
