Seas of Thieves is getting its biggest and most exciting update yet. Tied in with Season 3, the new “A Pirate’s Life” update will see this swashbuckling world cross swords with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. Not only will this season revolve around a brand new storyline, but it will introduce a host of changes to the game’s world. Of course one of the biggest sell points for the season involves playing alongside the erratic and eccentric Captain Jack Sparrow. Unlike previous NPC characters, Jack Sparrow will actually come aboard your ship, fire cannons, and spend time with the player during your adventures. Since you’re going to spend a lot of time with Jack Sparrow, you might wonder who exactly is voicing this captain.
Who Voices Captain Jack Sparrow?
During our preview of Sea of Thieves’ Season 3 content, Rare confirmed that Captain Jack Sparrow’s voice actor is Jared Butler. Butler has voiced Captain Jack Sparrow in a number of video games including Kingdom Hearts III, Disney Infinity, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s Edge. While Johnny Depp isn’t in the game, hardcore Disney fans may recognize one familiar voice, but it’s not from the movies. During a certain point in the story, players will hear the original voiceover from the Disneyland Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Rare has been very adamant that they want to include elements from both the attraction and films. The team at Rare also used Johnny Depp’s stunt double from the Pirates of the Caribbean to accurately portray Sparrow’s mannerisms.
What to Expect From Sea of Thieves Season 3
If you haven’t been keeping up with Sea of Thieves, the latest update is set to the biggest in the game’s history. Introducing two locations, five Tall Tale story missions, a host of cosmetics, three enemy factions, and a number of new mechanics, there’s going to be a lot to do for prospective pirates. Designed for both new, returning, and veteran players, the Season 3 story takes place in a location called the Sea of the Damned. Unlike previous Tall Tales, these missions will be entirely cut off from the rest of the world. Meaning, you won’t need to worry about encountering other players that aren’t a part of your crew. This is an isolated experience that triggers when you reach a certain area in the Sea of the Damned.
Players will also encounter three different species of enemies including sirens, ghost pirates, and Ocean Crawlers. Both sirens and Ocean Crawlers have been confirmed to appear outside of the story content, while details on the spectral foes haven’t been released. We also know there is a new weapon you can find and pick up called The Trident of Dark Tides. This is a projectile weapon that fires balls of energy and it appears that you can charge it up to increase the energy orb’s blast radius. For those looking to play dress-up, all of the Pirates of the Caribbean cosmetics are tied behind the real money store called the Pirate Emporium.
