The Last of Us Part 2 Barkos Key Guide – How to Unlock the Barkos Door

There are a lot of easter eggs, secrets, and hidden items scattered throughout the world of The Last of Us Part 2. Even though you can stumble across some items, others will require you to go out of your way and complete additional tasks. One of these is unlocking the Barkos pet store which has the front entrance blocked and the only door available is locked. Unlike a lot of the other locked doors you will discover in The Last of Us Part 2, you will actually need to find a key to open this up.

Barkos Key Location

When you are free to roam the streets of Seattle, head north towards the corner of Spring Street and 5th Avenue. You will see a small store with the sign Ruston Coffee out front, so break the glass window by pressing Square and climb in. Head to the back and go into the bathroom near the back. Once you arrive at the bathroom you will be jumped by a Runner so quickly swap dispatch it with either a few melee strikes or a bullet to the head. After the enemy is dead, go to the changing table and pick the Barkos key up.

Remember, you don’t need to actually unlock these locations via Ellie marking them down on the map. You can visit anywhere in this portion of the city, regardless if you’ve discovered them via a note or field report from the WLF. We strongly recommend opening up Barkos first since the rewards inside are well worth the effort.

Where is Barkos & What’s Inside

You can find Barkos on the corner of Marion Street and 6th Avenue to the left of the courthouse. When you arrive out front, head down the alleyway to the right of the main door, and use the key to open the door. Inside you won’t find any infected or WLF, so don’t worry about getting into a fight. Instead, you’ll find the Short Grip Holster which lets you quickly swap between your revolver and a regular handgun. This is fantastic since you won’t need to hold down Square in the middle of a fight to swap weapons.

There is also a whiteboard along the wall that shows all the different WLF safe houses and bases. Interacting with it will cause Ellie to mark down any points of interest that you haven’t already discovered. These include a bank where the shotgun is located, a crashed supply vehicle, and an area where there’s a WLF safe. Dina will also share some background lore on her history and a paramilitary faction she encountered.

Alternatively, this safe house is a good stop when you are in need of crafting materials or ammo since there’s a ton. It’s always good to have supplies since you never know what horrors you’ll end up encountering during your trip.
