Smash Ultimate Falco Guide – Moves, Outfits, Strengths, Weaknesses

Smash Ultimate has no shortage of laser blasting space animals. Fox, Wolf, and of course that grumpy old Falco all make appearances. The three characters are very similar, in terms of overall style and abilities, but have some important distinctions. You absolutely don’t want to play them all the same way. Which is why we’re providing this guide to the original angry bird and how to help him beat the rest of the game’s massive roster.

Smash Ultimate sports 74 different playable characters at launch — including every single previous character from the super-franchise and a bunch of fresh faces. That’s not even including the glut of DLC fighters, assist trophies, and more. There’s so much that no one person could possibly keep track of everything. That’s why we’ve compiled a guide to every single character.

Falco is an interesting ranged character with more power than speed. But he really stands out from his Star Fox compatriots thanks to his abilities in the air.

According to his official Nintendo description…

Well, apparently Nintendo doesn’t appreciate Falco, so it doesn’t have an official description for him. Sorry! You’ll just have to use our guide descriptions to help you along. And maybe check out the video below.

Inkling Moves

Blaster (B) – Fires Blaster shots less rapidly than Fox, but his make enemies flinch.

Falco Phantasm (Side + B) – Dashes forward with incredible speed. Hit an airborne opponent to meteor them downward.

Falco Moves

Fire Bird (Up + B) – Wraps himself in flame, and dashes through the air in the direction the control stick is tilted.

Reflector (Down + B) – Kicks out an energy shield that reflects projectiles and deals damage.

Team Star Fox (Final Smash) – Falco uses a targeting reticle to lock on to any opponents right in front of him. If he acquires a target, a team of Arwings shows up and fires at will.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

As in previous Super Smash Bros. entries, Falco is generally similar to his counterpart, but with a few twists. He still has a more powerful, albeit slower, blaster than Fox, and can toss his reflector. That gives him interesting options in the neutral game against projectile-spam characters. He’s still every bit the speedster, too, and can outpace a good majority of the cast. Also, as a bird, Falco loves airborne fights, where his devastating aerials can really shine.

Weaknesses

Falco shares the same struggles as his Fox and Wolf counterparts. He’s lightweight, and some moves require finesse to pull off. His Up-B recovery move is predictable as ever, so opponents can keep you at a disadvantage if they play around it. Try to keep control of fights and dodge the big hits.

Falco Outfits

Falco is a palette swap character with eight different color schemes for his feathers and jacket. Being a bird, his brightly colored plumage does stand out more than a lot of other palette swap fighters. So that’s nice.

We hope you enjoyed this breakdown of Falco, everybody’s second favorite Star Fox character. Joking aside, the fighter pilot does bring some interesting variations to the game. We’re excited to see if that raises him above Fox, a Super Smash Bros. mainstay.
