The next horrifying installment of the Resident Evil series has finally arrived. Continuing the story of Ethan Winters following the events of Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village sees our titular hero venture into a mysterious eastern European town to save his kidnapped baby. Throughout your journey, Ethan will encounter all sorts of horrific monsters, eccentric characters, puzzles, and familiar faces. Pulling inspiration from previous entries, Resident Evil Village mixes both horror and action. Like previous entries, the player will come across a number of key items which can be used to interact with objects in the environment. While many of these are tied to the story, the Well Wheel is completely missable. However, it’s an essential tool that can give you some hearty rewards for your time.
Where to Find the Well Wheel
You can get the Well Wheel after you complete all of Lady Dimitrescu’s castle. While you will pass where the wheel is during the opening moments, it’s inaccessible until you obtain the Iron Insignia Key. After beating the castle, you’ll make your way back to the village. The Duke will explain that you should visit the house with the bright red chimney. There’s only one way to reach this area and it’s a fairly linear path that’s filled with enemies.
Eventually, you’ll reach a road that’s blocked by an overturned cart. On the left will be another path running down a small hill that’s filled with werewolves. A few will be perched on the roofs of the homes, so use your sniper rifle to quickly dispatch one before they swarm. After you kill all the werewolves, make your way down the road and look for a gate door with the Iron Insignia on it. Use the key to unlock this gate and go inside the small shack (marked above with a red X) on the right. Do not go up the ladder. Inside, enter the tiny room on the right to discover the Well Wheel resting on some barrels.
You can now visit any of the wells accessible in the village (and the one in the castle) to get some extra rewards. This item has unlimited uses, so don’t worry about breaking it or picking the right well. To use this item, just approach a well and press X (PlayStation)/ A (Xbox) to open up your key item menu. Now select the Wheel Well to attach and call the bucket up from the well. You can then collect any loot inside and continue on your way. Before you proceed to the next of the four lords area, I recommend visiting all the wells you can in the village. Most of them contain either lockpicks or ammo for stronger weapons like the shotgun and sniper rifle.
Any well you visited will have a black X over it on the map and no well can be used more than once. Since enemies won’t respawn until you go to the next major area, it’s definitely worth hitting every village well with all the werewolves dead.
