The next horrifying installment of the Resident Evil series has finally arrived. Continuing the story of Ethan Winters following the events of Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village sees our titular hero venture into a mysterious eastern European town to save his kidnapped baby. Throughout your journey, Ethan will encounter all sorts of horrific monsters, eccentric characters, puzzles, and familiar faces. Pulling inspiration from previous entries, Resident Evil Village mixes both horror and action. There are a number of weapons that Ethan will come across during his journey, one of which is the M1851 Wolfsbane, better known as the magnum. This is the highest damaging weapon in the entire game, which makes it critical to nab after you beat Moreau.
How to Get the Magnum
Despite finding ammo for it during your exploration of the reservoir, you actually won’t find the Wolfbane until after you’ve defeated the boss. Once the fish is vanquished, make your way back out through the windmill. However, before you leave the area take a right and use the Crank to open the Mechanical Door to your right. This will unlock a path to a small area filled with enemies. Be prepared to fight off both zombies and flying monsters, as there are a decent number of foes hanging around this area. I recommend using the sniper rifle for the flying creatures and a shotgun for the zombies. However, if you have an abundance of handgun ammo that can work too.
Additionally, you will find a lightbox along a cliff that contains the Mermaid Ball. This is used for the Labyrinth puzzle right next to the windmill so you can earn the Chartreuse Crystal Skull. After you have the ball, go up the hill, fighting through the scattered enemies until you reach the building at the very top (marked above with a red X). The door will be locked, so equip your shotgun and crawl through the broken portion of the wall at the back of the house. Inside will be a werewolf that you’ll need to kill. After it’s dead, open up the chest to earn the M1851 Wolfsbane.
This Magnum deals 1,700 damage per shot, making it the best single-target weapon in Resident Evil Village. With that being said, ammo is scarce, so I recommend holding onto it for bosses only. If you are itching to try it, there’s a large black wolf stalking the area outside the houses. Either use the magnum or explosive rounds to take it down. Keep in mind, you cannot craft magnum ammo, so you are solely reliant on what you discover in the world. Additionally, Duke has a few upgrades for the gun that will increase its damage, reload speed, and rate of fire. Since we’re only using this to hurt bosses, I only invested in the damage bump.
