Rainbow Six Extraction PC Guide – How to Download From Game Pass

Six steps too many.

After multiple delays, Rainbow Six Extraction is finally out on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC. If you’re a Game Pass subscriber, you can already download the game from the Game Pass interface. That is, unless you use the Xbox app on PC. The process to download the tactical shooter from Ubisoft is unfortunately more convoluted on that platform. So, if you’re wondering how to download Rainbow Six Extraction on PC without giving yourself a headache, we’ve got you covered.

How to Download Rainbow Six Extraction from Game Pass on PC

In brief, here’s how to download Rainbow Six Extraction on PC with Game Pass:

  1. Open the Xbox app and click the game’s banner on the carousel to be redirected to another site — or just click here.
  2. Click on the Log-In button to sing in using your Microsoft account.
  3. Then, you have to grant Ubisoft permission to access your gamertag, friends list, activity, stats, rankings, settings, and content you share at anytime, even when not using the app.
  4. A prompt will tell you the account you’re about to link is going to become the reference Xbox account “for your Ubisoft experience.” If you have multiple Outlook profiles, make sure to choose the address associated with Game Pass.
  5. Log in to your Ubisoft account.
  6. The window will close and you’ll be back at the original site. In case you’re unsure about whether or not you logged in to your right address, you’ll see your gamertag in here before confirming.
  7. Almost done! Now, you have to either open or download Ubisoft Connect (as I’ve found out, Uplay does not exist anymore).
  8. You should see a massive Rainbow Six Extraction banner as soon as you enter, but if not, the game is also in your library.
  9. At the time of publication, the installation size is just over 47 GB, as well as an optional HD texture pack if you to download an additional 8.5 GB.

Your journey begins here.

Yeah, all of these steps may come as a surprise if you haven’t played a Ubisoft game in a while. Fanbyte’s own senior managing editor Steven Strom spent a good chunk of time investigating every app in existence to no avail. The game isn’t present in either the Xbox Console Companion app or the Xbox Game Bar app.

How about the Microsoft Store? Well, searching for the game doesn’t seem to work. When Steven finally managed to find the game, they got an error message saying, “this product can’t be installed on this PC.”

On my end, while it was easier to navigate knowing exactly where to go, it still took quite a bit of time. First, Ubisoft Connect was still Uplay for me, as I hadn’t used the app in ages. The rebranding appeared once I opened it, but it got stuck in a “looking for patches” message. I then had to restart the app entirely and that seemed to fix it.

A few minutes later, I had to accept three different messages from my firewall as the app kept asking for different permissions. Oh, and I also didn’t remember my Ubisoft account off the top of my head, but your mileage may vary on this. Whether the game is worth or not the download effort is yours to decide, but at the very least you won’t have to spend more than a few minutes trying to find the right site.
