Season 16 Week 8

Aid Mission: Win 20 times in Arena

As an Arena fiend myself, I can think of no better mission to close out this hellish year. For many, the idea of completing 20 arena matches might be too much to bear: never mind actually winning them. If you’re one of those so-called “arenaphobes,” though, you can rest easy knowing it’s actually an Aid mission. Arena only ever features squads, so winning one effectively means winning four or five at once. Just mix it up with different modes if you’re really not feeling the grind. Why they couldn’t just cut the win requirement down and make it a normal mission, we’ll never know.

Choice Mission

  1. Finish in the Top 20 in Miramar 5 times in Classic mode

    • Miramar is a big map. Without any rivers and mountains cutting it down, chokepoints are non-existent, making reserved play easier than ever. Just play safe and you’ll hit top 20 without much trouble.
  2. Finish in the Top 20 in Vikendi 5 times in Classic mode

    • Vikendi’s varied elevation makes it a sniper’s dream. If you can get up high and stay there, you should be relatively safe. Just hold out and listen for any approaching players looking to camp out.
  3. Finish in the Top 20 in Erangel 6 times in Classic mode

    • While huge on the surface, Erangel’s multi-island setup means chokepoints can threaten your existence if you’re skirting the ring. Try to identify the island it’ll call home before you become a figurative fish in a barrel.

Land more than 1500 meters away from the airplane 2 times

We’ve gone over this type of mission numerous times now, but for those who might not have seen it before, here’s how it works: When attempting to land 1500 meters away from the airplane at the start of the match, you simply need to land away from the position it was in when you jumped—not where it may happen to be when you land.

It’s easier than it sounds. Just dive and immediately set yourself to glide wherever you want to go. Don’t nosedive. Progress is measured through horizontal distance rather than vertical distance, so plunging straight down (as most tend to) won’t tick this mission off.

Land on any rooftop in San Martin (Miramar) 3 times in Classic mode

San Martin is one of the better rooftop mission options around. It’s dilapidated, all things considered, but while there are countless smaller rooftops to aim for, there are plenty of bigger ones around the outskirts as well. Those on the west side tend to have the better loot, so if you’re hoping to really stick the landing, head in that direction. If you’re looking to drop in and make a swift exit, though, the rooftops to the north and southeast are easy targets and sit right by the road out of town.

Open 4 Air Drops in Classic mode

Next to the penultimate circle, air drops are the main point of contention in most matches. Everybody wants whatever is inside the loot boxes, and they’ll do anything to get their hands on one. Whether they take what’s inside or not, only one person can open each air drop, meaning you either have to get there fast, or slay anyone who attempts to crack it open before you.

My go-to tips for this depend on your playstyle. If you’re the aggressive type, use a vehicle or smoke grenades to get in and out fast while covering your tracks. If you’d rather not take the risk, hang back on a nearby hill and watch carefully as other players fight to claim the goods. When only one or two players remain, pick them off and steal the loot for yourself. It pays to be patient.

Pick up 4x Scope in 10 matches in Classic mode

This week is taking no prisoners. While the 4x scope isn’t necessarily as rare as air drops, it’s still a highly-valued attachment that can turn some of the game’s most common weapons into serious threats at any point in the match. 4x scopes can be found virtually anywhere, but you’re bound to have the best luck in medium/high-tier loot locations. Check out the heatmap on the PUBG interactive map to find your favorite.

I don’t suggest actively looking for one, but if you ever come across one, it’s always worth a slot in your inventory. If you’re having trouble finding one in the wild, know this: the popularity of the 4x scope means there’s a very high chance anyone you kill in the top 20 will have one on hand. That counts.

Friend Bonus: Win a Classic match 1 time while wearing a Military Vest (Lv. 3)

Being in a squad should make it easier to come across a level three vest or two, allowing the friend bonus to make some amount of sense. Grab one from the ground, an air drop or from a cold, dead corpse: the method doesn’t matter. What does, though, is what you do with it.

You need to win the match with the equipment, and while the level three vest won’t magically improve your skill, it will increase your survivability, meaning a single mistake might just be ok. Think of it as breathing room: with it equipped, there’s less pressure on how you control something like SMG spray when it comes to winning the final battle. A second longer on the field could be the different between delivering the killing blow or succumbing to your own wounds.

Choice Mission

  1. Kill 16 enemies with Assault Rifles in Vikendi in Classic mode

    • Vikendi’s varied elevation and wide-open fields make assault rifles fitted with a 4x scope a powerful killing combination.
  2. Kill 8 enemies with Bolt Action Rifles in Miramar in Classic mode

    • Take the Kar98K here and you’ll kill multiple birds with one stone—the birds being missions, and the stone being your bullet. There are better weapons for the job, but the trusty Kar98K tends to be more readily available throughout a match.
  3. Kill 15 enemies with SMGs in Erangel in Classic mode
    • SMGs shine in close combat, so you want to be in a settlement with plenty of houses, corridors, and corners to properly manage this. Georgopol is a good choice, but steer clear of the divide.

Kill 6 enemies with headshots in Classic mode

Before you go plotting which weapon to drag out for a headshot spree, take note of the mission right below this. The aforementioned German rifle is incredibly common, and while it doesn’t come pre-equipped with a scope, finding one to bolster its power shouldn’t be too hard early in the game. That being said, if you’re more inclined to playing aggressively with assault rifles, kitting out your favorite with a 4x scope could help you clear this one faster. It’s all about personal preference and experience, really.

Kill 6 enemies with Kar98K in any mode

As mentioned above, the Kar98K is a readily-available rifle that just needs a decent scope to become a serious threat early in the game. It has one of the lowest accuracy ratings in its class, but so long as your targets aren’t heavily armored, it shouldn’t take more than a single shot to the skull to put them down, ticking off both this and the above mission off at the same time—or even the 4x scope mission should the stars align. In truth, though, headshots aren’t actually necessary here. Just kills. Making the weapon’s iffy accuracy less of a concern.
