Though you might have missed it, PUBG Mobile was down for maintenance in the early UTC hours of this morning. The game servers are now back up and running with little to show for the downtime, but now we know why – the big 0.14.0 update.
Despite downtime already happening, PUBG Mobile 0.14.0 is expected to go live tomorrow, August 14. Expect a chunky patch download to appear very soon. But what most don’t yet know is what the big PUBG Mobile 0.14.0 update is set to feature.
Patch notes haven’t been released at the time of writing, and there’s barely been talk of the patch as a whole from officials. Just don’t go expecting those very helpful colorblind features just yet.
PUBG Mobile Patch 0.14.0 Features
But just because the patch notes have yet to make the rounds, doesn’t mean we’re been left completely in the dark. The official PUBG Mobile Twitter account has mentioned a few of the features set to arrive in the big update, and a small selection of the full patch notes did make their way into the game very recently, but each lack any serious detail. So what can you expect in the big PUBG Mobile 0.14.0 patch?
Well, for starters, there’s a “new character system” coming. We’ve heard of this in passing before, and it looks as if we’ll be getting a taste of it very soon. The new character system in question relates not wholly to how your character looks, but how they actually play.
Think of it as a hero shooter like Overwatch or even Destiny 2. Victor will be the first of these characters to be added tomorrow, bringing not only a signature appearance, but a character-specific skill that allows him to reload SMGs more quickly. These character skills will be limited to Evo Ground matches, so there’s no need to worry about Classic matches suddenly becoming a fight over gimmicks.
Next on the list is the “Global Treasure Hunt”. Again, we don’t know a whole lot about this other than what the PUBG Mobile twitter has said already. It sounds like a limited-time evolution of the current Events screen. Playing matches will award “precious currency” that can then be exchanged for “amazing rewards”. It is listed as the “million-dollar Global Treasure Hunt” so, yeah… that’s an amazing reward alright.
Then comes my personal highlight of the PUBG Mobile 0.14.0 update – Infection Mode. The fact the various PUBG Mobile Zombies modes weren’t removed after the Resident Evil 2 promotion assured us they were here to stay, so it’s good to see Tencent building on that momentum with a third version.
Infestation is toted as an “Asymmetric PvP mode”. Players are divided onto two teams: Zombies and Defenders. It’s up to the zombies to infect the Defenders, and for the Defenders to not lose the last of their kind to the zombies.
Zombies can only attack with melee and specially designed cooldowns (probably like the acid spit projectile seen in the Darkest Night modes), whereas Defenders will have select firearms available for use. At least one Defender needs to survive outlast the clock to claim victory for their kind. It’s a mode that’s bound to reward strategy on both sides; at least in the last few moments. Keep an eye out for our inevitable PUBG Mobile Infestation Guide.
PUBG Mobile Patch 0.14.0 Release Times
The big PUBG Mobile 0.14.0 update goes live on August, 14. Full patch notes should arrive around the same time. The servers initially went down for 0.14.0 maintenance at 12 AM UTC (1 AM UK time) before coming back up three hours later.
What this means is there likely won’t be any downtime for the update itself. Just download the patch when it becomes available and you should be good to go.
What we don’t know, however, is the US or UK time the PUBG Mobile update will actually go live.
