Outriders is the latest looter-shooter to release in this ever-growing genre. Developed by People Can Fly, this action RPG places you in the shoes of a cryogenically frozen soldier who has gained enhanced abilities thanks to a mysterious storm called the Anomaly. With four classes available upon release, players can bend time, ignite enemies on fire, summon powerful constructs, and shake the very planet. While you can explore the dangers of Enoch alone, Outriders supports up to three-player cooperative play. Additionally, crossplay between PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 is available at launch. Given how the different classes can play off one another’s strengths, you definitely want to battle alongside some friends.
How to Play Online
After you complete the prologue, pick your class, and make your way back to Rift Town you’ll be given access to the matchmaking system. Open your map and head towards the icon of a white circle with a few people inside it. This should look like an antenna connected to a computer, so go interact with it. Doing so will open up the matchmaking menu where you will be presented with a number of options. If you’re looking to invite some friends, select them from the list on the right or through your platform’s friends list. You can have up to three people in a game at a time and there is only the cooperative mode available.
If you want to just play with random players, select “Join a Random Team” in the top right corner. This will matchmake you with others looking for random users. You can also join or host a party from the game’s lobby after you pick your character.
For those that prefer to be left alone, you can switch your party options between Open, Friends Only, and Invite Only. The latter will ensure nobody can get into your game without you inviting them first. You can have any combination of classes, so don’t worry if you and your friends end up picking the same one!

How to Play Crossplay
If your friends are on a different platform, you will need to use a code system to invite them into your game. To host a crossplay lobby just click Generate Code and give that to your friends on their systems. They will then input the code in the “Join A Game Using Code” allowing them to play with you on whatever platform you’re on. While you can use in-game voice chat, if you pick this option I would recommend using a third-party option like Discord.
Remember, you can play with your friends at any level and still earn progress towards your character. With that being said, I suggest starting out with those around your level. This will ensure a more balanced experience without someone just devastating everyone in their path.
