MTG Modern Horizons 2 – Price, Cards, Release Date, & More

Modern Horizons 2 is finally on, well, the horizon! Magic: The Gathering’s second completely unique modern-focused set, Horizons 2 is poised to be one of the most powerful and complex sets released in recent years. With 303 cards, Wizards of the Coast will finally be reprinting the enemy-colored fetch lands, which is more than enough of a reason to draft or purchase packs from this set. Along with these, we know that sagas will be making a return and that potent reprints like Counterspell will be in this set. So if you’re looking to add some new cards to your collection or just bump up the power level of your Tron deck, here’s what you need to know about Modern Horizons 2.

Modern Horizons 2 Release Date

Unlike previous sets we covered, Modern Horizons 2 does not appear to be coming to MTG Arena. Similar to the original Modern Horizons, this appears to be for paper and MTGO only. Because of this, you can expect this set to drop on June 18, 2021, with prereleases scheduled to begin on June 11. Keep in mind, whether your local game store actually holds one completely depends on their COVID restrictions. I recommend calling and checking, as many will sell pre-release kits so you can hold your own mini-event at home if there isn’t one happening at the store.

Modern Horizons 2 Price

Here’s where things get a little depressing. A Modern Horizons 2 booster box is typically over double the price of a Standard set booster box. On StarCityGames, the current price for a box is around $260, but this could always go up or down depending on what cards are announced. After checking around at other online retail vendors like Card Kingdom and Channel Fireball, this price seems to be standard across the board. Since there is no MSRP, retailers can price and sell these boxes, booster packs, and cards for whatever they want. Just remember, this isn’t a limited print run set, so you shouldn’t need to worry about this set completely selling out.

Modern Horizons 2 Cards

At the time of writing this, preview week hasn’t officially started. However, we did get a glimpse at a few cards already such as the Buy-a-Box promo Sanctum Prelate and Diamond Lion which is an homage to the Mirage card, Lion’s Eye Diamond. Preview week begins on May 24th and lasts until June 1st.
