Knights of the Old Republic 2 Bug: How to Avoid the Basilisk Crash Glitch

Tips on avoiding this widespread, game-breaking glitch

If you hit a Knights of the Old Republic 2 bug at the Basilisk Crash section, you’re not alone. The Nintendo Switch port of KOTOR 2 is off to a rocky start for a good number of players. Since its launch on June 8, folks have noticed a variety of minor and major glitches throughout the game. One of the most frustrating comes midway through the game, right as the player returns to Iziz on the planet Onderon. While the developers at Aspyr have acknowledged the bug, the company has yet to provide a timeline on when it will be fixed.

Currently, the only known way to get around this bug uses the in-game cheats menu. Unfortunately, this does skip a small portion of the story. Be advised that Aspyr encourages all players to use backup saves when enabling cheats. This is useful to avoid any glitches that might arise from using the cheats menu, but also as a safeguard against any other glitches still present in the game. Without further ado: here’s how to avoid the Basilisk Crash Glitch in Knights of the Old Republic 2.

How to avoid the Basilisk Crash Glitch in Knights of the Old Republic 2

  1. Before anything else, create a backup save. You can do this by saving the game as normal, but saving in an empty slot, separate from your primary save.
  2. Load the backup save.
  3. Speak to the NPC named Xarga. The screen will fade to black and trigger the first cutscene. From here, you have two options:

Option 1

  1. Let the cutscene play until you’re brought to the party select screen.
  2. Select your party members.
  3. After you select the option to continue with your party members, click the left stick three times. This will open up the cheats menu.
  4. Scroll down and select the “warp” option.
  5. Scroll down again and select “504 OND.
  6. Your character will warp to the Sky Ramp, skipping the glitched cutscene entirely.

Option 2

  1. Once the first cutscene begins, click the left stick three times. This will open up the cheats menu. Complete the following steps before the cutscene ends.
  2. Scroll down and select the “warp” option.
  3. Scroll down again and select “504 OND.
  4. Your character will be warped to the Sky Ramp, skipping the glitched cutscene entirely. Note that this method will leave you without a party, so combat will be more difficult.

Other things to keep in mind:

  • Whichever option you choose, make sure to avoid the Merchant Quarter. At least until a fix is live. This seems to be the area that triggers the crash.
  • If you want to have your party with you, some players have had success warping away from the Sky Ramp first, then adjusting party members, and finally warping back to 504 OND.
  • This method will skip part of the story. If you’re briefly confused about what’s going on, that’s normal and currently unavoidable.

And that’s what we have to work with so far! Hopefully this helps you deal with the Basilisk Crash Glitch in Knights of the Old Republic 2. If you have any other solutions, feel free to leave them in the comments below. We’ll be sure to also update this guide with a notice when the bug appears to be fixed. Hopefully in time for the “Restored Content” DLC coming sometime later.
