Eagle eyed Genshin Impact fans found something interesting in the latest special program highlighting everything coming to the game in Patch 1.5. In it, Aether and Lumine sit down with Zhongli and talk about new characters, upcoming events, and the game’s newly announced housing system. If you stuck around until the very end, however, after the screen goes dark, it comes back up with a sneak peek at Inazuma, the Electro area which is next. While there was nothing on the English stream, the Chinese stream had a “special guest” not in the game talking about the upcoming Inazuma region. Many are speculating this is Yae Sakura from Honkai Impact 3rd.

Who is Yae Sakura?
In Honkai Impact 3rd, Yae is a melee DPS who can mark targets to deal big spikes of damage as she teleports between foes. However, the game has Battlesuits which can change how the character plays. For example, her Darkbolt Jonin outfit turns her from a single-target DPS to a close-range AOE damage dealer with a focus on, you guessed it, lightning. With this, she has an ability called Raksha’s Rage which summons an Electro multi-tailed fox to smite enemies. It deals a large amount of AOE damage in front of her and then 12 seconds after the initial cast, gives you the ability to cast it again yourself. Doing so will rapidly strike all enemies in front of you and deal a huge amount of lightning damage.
Sounds like a good fit for Genshin Impact, honestly.
What is Honkai Impact 3rd?
Honkai Impact 3rd was probably the breakout hit for MiHoYo in the West though Guns Girl Z was also popular. It’s another free-to-play gacha game though it was relatively unique at launch in that it utilizes a simulated analog stick on the screen. Not many existing gacha games at the time even came close to attempting real time 3D action combat.
The game uses many similar mechanics to Genshin Impact. Each character has unique skills, you can swap between your team of three at any point (with a small cooldown), and there’s an increased focus on side-stories and fleshing out character’s backstories. In a lot of ways, it was a precursor to Genshin releasing on both mobile, consoles, and PC.
What Else Do We Know About Yae Sakura in Genshin Impact?
Over on HoneyHunterWorld you can see datamined voice lines from Ayaka which reference a Yae Sakura. Obviously this got Honkai Impact 3rd fans excited because she shares a name with a character from that game. It’s really not much and aside from this official tweet which mentions Guuji Yae, but looks different from Yae Sakura, there hasn’t been much revealed. That is, until now.
Is This a Crossover?
Honestly, we’re not entirely sure. Based on that tweet from the Genshin Impact Twitter account, the character looks different though things may have changed. It’s entirely possible that the developers bring over Yae Sakura since they also develop Honkai Impact 3rd.
When more information about Yae Sakura is released, we’ll be sure to update this guide and let you know!
