If you’re experienced with Genshin Impact, you’re usually going out of your way to gather materials around Teyvat and Inazuma. Onikabuto is not one of those at the moment, however. The region has just released and no currently released or announced upcoming characters use it. That said, Onikabuto is filed as a local specialty which means someone will use it as an ascension material eventually. In this guide we’ll highlight all of the locations for you to farm these Electro bugs.

Where to Find Onikabuto
If you are looking to farm Onikabuto you have your work cut out for you. There are only a total of 20 nodes throughout the entire world thus far which means you’ll need to be pretty consistent about farming them as soon as they’re available.
The largest cluster of them is found around the mountain of Yougou. Gathering all of these will net you just under half of the available nodes. If you want the rest you’ll need to go south to the Kujou Encampment and Tatarasuna. The southernmost island also has four nodes, but they’re spread around a bit and are the least optimal to farm.
As we said there are 20 nodes total. If you visit all of the above nodes aside from the less optimal southern island, you’ll net 16 of them. How quickly you accrue the resource ultimately depends on how much time you’re willing to spend getting the harder to reach nodes.
There is likely somewhere you can purchase Onikabuto as well, but we’re still exploring the new Inazuma region and Genshin Impact 2.0. We’ll keep you updated should we find more sources of the material.
Remember, the bugs will respawn around every two to three real-world days. Because of this, I recommend hitting both areas areas. This will maximize your farm, reducing the amount of time spent waiting for them to refresh.
At the time of writing this, Onikabuto is only used in the recipe to craft Electro Treasure Compasses. Players are still making their way through the new Genshin Impact 2.0 content and as a result, we don’t know what all these new materials are needed for.
It is a local specialty according to the official miHoYo map, however, which means a character will eventually use it for ascension. Since it takes 168 of any material to reach Ascension 6 for a single character, I recommend you start farming early. Even if there’s nothing announced right now, there’s always a chance you could get a character that needs them later down the road.
