As Fortnite continues to grow and change, so too does its “vault” — the (sometimes) final resting place for items and weapons deemed incongruous with Epic’s grand vision. It’s sorta like the Disney vault, just not as directly driven by the churning cogs of capitalism. If a gun is too powerful and upsets the balance of the game, it might get sent to the vault. If Epic wants players to spend more time on foot, it might send a couple vehicles to the vault.
When an item is removed from the vault and placed back into play, it has been “unvaulted.” Sometimes items return exactly as they left, but usually the unvaulted version of an item is adjusted in some way, so as to prevent whatever got it vaulted in the first place. No item is ever guaranteed to come back from the vault, but no item has ever been permanently banished there either. It all depends on what Epic thinks is best for the health of Fortnite Battle Royale.
Keeping track of what has and hasn’t been vaulted can be a real pain in the lockbox, so we took it upon ourselves to put together this handy database of items, weapons, and vehicles for your convenience. Below you will find a complete breakdown of everything that currently resides within the vault, as well as the most recent item(s) to be unvaulted. We will update this guide whenever Epic makes a change, so don’t be shy with that bookmark!

Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle (Unvaulted update v9.10)

It’s been a few months since anyone has had a chance to third-party with the fastest sniper rifle in the game — LTMs notwithstanding, of course. The Semi-Auto Sniper Rifle rejoins the fray after two other scoped weapons, the Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle and Scoped Revolver, were recently vaulted. Epic brought the gun out of retirement to “round out the medium/long-range item line-up,” according to the v9.10 patch notes.
Grenades (Unvaulted Update v9.0)

Grenades have been vaulted since update v7.40, when Epic made an effort to enhance the viability of building-based strategies in Battle Royale. Since they’re back in the fold, we can assume that Epic wants people to be blowing up more structures than they were previously.
Drum Gun (Unvaulted Update v8.51)

Some of you whipper-snappers may not even remember when the Drum Gun was vaulted back in update v5.40. There was much rejoicing! The Drum Gun was originally introduced as a hybrid of a rifle and an SMG, and it was just as overpowered as that sounds. A major round of nerfs were introduced in update v5.20, but they weren’t enough to prevent the Drum Gun from being removed entirely a month later.
Fast-forward to now, and the Drum Gun has returned following Season 8’s grand “Unvaulting” event. Update v9.0.1 has already reduced the Drum Gun’s base damage from 26/27 to 22/23; will that be enough to keep it in the game?
