Fortnite Season 8, Week 1 Challenges: Pirate Camps, Giant Faces

Ahoy, krusty krew! Season 8 has arrived, and as the swallows returned to Capistrano, so too have Fornite Battle Pass challenge guides returned to Fanbyte. Epic’s first slate of activities for Battle Royale’s newly volcano’d island isn’t all that surprising, but we do see an emphasis on exploration here, which is likely to help everyone get comfortable with all the new map changes. Here’s what you’ll be doing over the weekend:

  • Visit all 7 Pirate Camps [Free | 5 Battle Stars]
  • Search 7 chests at Retail Row or Junk Junction [Free | 5 Battle Stars]
  • Deal damage with a shotgun and an explosive weapon in a single match
    • Deal damage with a pistol and an assault rifle in a single match
      • Deal damage with a sniper rifle and an SMG in a single match [Free | 10 Battle Stars total]
  • Visit a giant face in the desert, the jungle, and the snow [Battle Pass | 5 Battle Stars]
  • Use a Volcano Vent in 5 different matches [Battle Pass | 5 Battle Stars]
  • Get an elimination with a shotgun, assault rifle, and explosive weapon [Battle Pass | 10 Battle Stars]
  • Deal 200 damage to a vehicle driven by an opponent [Battle Pass | 10 Battle Stars]

Visit all 7 Pirate Camps

Remember the Expedition Camps from Season 7? Well now they’re Pirate Camps, and you’re gonna visit ’em all again! Aren’t you just thrilled? Since most of the vehicles were vaulted with the release of v8.00, your alternatives to hoofing it are either a Quadcrasher or a Driftboard. The dirt racetrack to the East of Junk Junction has a high concentration of potential Quadcrasher spawn points, and it’s not too far from the North-left Pirate Camp, so that’s worth a shot. Driftboards used to be common around Expedition Camps, but now that those are all Pirate Camps, your mileage may vary. At any rate, just make to the locations marked above whenever you can, but keep track of which you’ve visited and which you haven’t!

Search 7 chests at Retail Row or Junk Junction

Retail Row has a higher overall concentration of chests than Junk Junction does, but it’s also more prone to attracting a crowd. If you’re working on this in solos, always drop to the location furthest from the bus route. Do consider Team Rumble and 50v50 for this though, as both modes offer more chests and safer looting conditions than vanilla Battle Royale.

Deal damage with a shotgun and an explosive weapon in a single match, etc

Epic couldn’t even make it a single week without hitting us with one of these dang staged challenges, but we do appreciate that it requires damage rather than eliminations, and that it’s worth 10 Battle Stars. Team Rumble is your best option for getting this done, for a number of reasons. First, Team Rumble’s enhanced loot table and extra supply drops both increase your chances of getting the weapon combo you need. And secondly, since Team Rumble has respawns enabled, you’ll have plenty of opportunities for landing the shots you need.

Visit a giant face in the desert, the jungle, and the snow

Before we talk about the actual challenge, we’ve got a bone to pick with how its description is written. Snow is a thing, not a location, and therefore “the desert, the jungle, and the snow” is incorrect. It would be more correct to say “the sand, the trees, and the snow,” or “the desert, the jungle, and the arctic.” Our fee is $50/word on large projects like Fortnite and we expect to see a check in the mail within 30 days.

Anyway, just pop by one of the locations marked above whenever you’re in the neighborhood. Easy peasy!

Use a Volcano Vent in 5 different matches

The volcano that murdered Wailing Woods also cracked the island in a bunch of places, and some of those cracks are venting steam with enough force to send you flying. The immediate area surrounding the volcano is your best bet for finding a vent, especially the lava flow to the South.

Get an elimination with a shotgun, assault rifle, and explosive weapon

Everything we said for the “deal damage with these two weapons” challenge above also applies to this challenge. Team Rumble is the place to be, and while this does require full eliminations, Epic was at least kind enough to not make us get all three in a single match.

Deal 200 damage to a vehicle driven by an opponent

The Quadcrasher and Driftboard are the only two vehicles left on the Battle Royale island, after this morning’s v8.00 update vaulted everything else. Farewell, shopping carts! You were always broken and we loved you dearly. Since vehicles are more likely to spawn in large-team LTMs like Team Rumble and 50v50, you may be more likely to find someone driving/riding one there. Honestly though, there’s not that much you can do to make this one any easier. Just keep an eye out and try not to miss.

Once you’ve completed all 7 of these challenges, head to the top of the tower marked above in Lazy Lagoon to recover your Hidden Tier. Smooth sailing!
