Fortnite Guide: Own the Skies With the X-4 Stormwing

Earlier this month, Fortnite Season 7 introduced the game’s first plane: the X-4 Stormwing. The X-4 is quite a powerful vehicle that can even take a beating upon crashing. That makes it both a stable way to move from location to location and an incredibly forgiving addition to the game’s vehicle roster.

If you want to dominate the skies with the X-4 Stormwing, here’s everything you need to know to get started with the most powerful vehicle in Fortnite.

What Can You Do With the X-4 Stormwing?

The X-4 Stormwing lets players fly freely across the Fortnite map — be it hopping from location to location or speeding off into the Eye of the Storm. Pilots can carry four passengers on the wings in total, meaning the X-4 transports up to five people. That makes the X-4 Stormwing a fantastic vehicle for both duos and squads alike. Although the plane works just as well in solo mode thanks to its machine gun and fast speed.

Pilots and passengers alike can eject from the X-4 at any time and skydive to locations, meaning a squad member can fly their three teammates to the eye of the storm, ditch the plane, and join them from afar. The plane can tank 800 hit points, too, and players can fly faster to locations by using boost. The X-4 also features a landing gear and evasive maneuvers via rolling left, right, or flying upside down. Players can even do a barrel roll by double tapping the left or right roll buttons. To fly upside down, simply press both roll buttons at the same time.

Where to Find the X-4 Stormwing in Fortnite

We’ve gone ahead and pointed out the various locations across the Fortnite: Battle Royale map where the X-4 Stormwing spawns. There are over a dozen different areas in total. While most can be found around the southwest winter biome, there’s also a number scattered across the northern half of the battlefield.

Tips and Tricks for the X-4 Stormwing

You can practice with the X-4 Stormwing before hopping into a competitive match by using Fortnite’s very own sandbox: Creative mode. This new mode lets players enter a custom island and spawn an X-4 from any platform or staircase. Creative mode is a great way to learn the plane’s controls, practice evasive maneuvers, and fine-tune your settings to handle the X-4 as gracefully as possible. For more information on Creative mode, check out our guide from earlier this month on the Season 7 feature.

For Fortnite players interested in teaming up with friends, the X-4 Stormwing lets passengers fire their normal weapons while the pilot controls the plane. That means a pilot’s buddies can rain down firepower onto enemies during a nose dive, take aim at other X-4 Stormwings, or rain death from above onto enemy forts. It takes some practice, but it’s a great way to deal damage while remaining as evasive as possible.

Likewise, there’s no need to land an X-4 Stormwing before leaving the vehicle. If you’d like to desert your plane, drop your squad into a coveted location, or throw your X-4 into the Storm (so it won’t fall into enemy hands), you can simply eject from the vehicle and skydive to safety. Just remember that players already on the ground may spot you from below and plan their attack while you fall from the skies!
