Fortnite Disable a Tank by Damaging the Engine Explained

As part of the week 7 quests in Chapter 3 Season 2, one of the tasks involve disabling a tank by damaging the engine. Now, you’ve probably faced dozens of tanks by now since the season started, but you may not know exactly where the engine is or how to solve the quest.

First of all, we’re going to need a tank. I recommend a spot east of Command Cavern. If you follow the road to the right, there is a short path right after the intersection that goes to the left before the cliffs. That is one of the tank locations in Fortnite — unless someone gets there first, you should be fine. As always, I recommend to just land here directly from the battle bus.

Now, look for any nearby weapons. It doesn’t matter which (unless it’s a rocket launcher, as it won’t work for this) and head over to the back of the tank. You don’t need to turn it on first or anything.

See those yellow vents on the back of the tank? That’s what we’re focusing fire on. Using a rare shotgun, it took around three shots for them to start leaking smoke. If you’re not getting this as a result, make sure that you’re aiming right at the vents instead of somewhere else near them.

The key here is to shoot the vents long enough for them to overheat — as long as you sustain your fire, you’re going to see fire coming from the vents.

Once you’re at that stage, you should get a notification on the right side of the screen saying that the quest is done.

That is all for the Fortnite disable a tank by damaging the engine objective! While the tank is going to overheat, don’t fret, as it won’t explode unless you continue to fire at it. As such, you can go ahead and jump on it to get a headstart in the match.
