Far Cry 6 is the latest installment in this long-running FPS franchise and it has you assuming the role of a guerrilla fighter in the totally fictional country of
Cuba Yara. Ruled by the vicious dictator Anton Castillo, players will burn, blast, and blow up the militaristic forces occupying this island. Just like previous games in this series, players will venture to various regions in Yara, taking down specific villains, acquiring new weapons, and fighting alongside the locals in typically zany quests. Unlike other entries, you will typically only use one vehicle in Far Cry 6, but you can customize both how it looks and functions. Known as your “Ride,” there are only four options available to pick from and summon whenever you need a lift.
How to Unlock Cosmetics
When it comes to your custom rolling death machine there are six cosmetic options you can tinker with. These are the exterior and interior colors, the rim style, horn, dashboard prop, and mirror prop.
For the different colors, horns, and rims, you will unlock these by bringing new vehicles to any Vehicle Pickup point anywhere in Yara or scanning them with your phone. For the latter, just bring your phone up with the D-Pad and look at a parked car. You should see a white box appear that says “Scanning” on it. Wait until this goes green and then exit the phone to add the vehicle and cosmetics to your collection. However, this won’t work on military vehicles like trucks, tanks, helicopters, and jets. These require you actually go to a Vehicle Pickup point.
Marked as green icons with a white truck, you will unlock pickup points by liberating FND controlled bases or at specific story locations. Driving any stolen vehicle into the blue box by the pickup point will instantly add cosmetic items to your ride. Because of this, I strongly recommend taking multiple cars to the drop-off areas as you play through Far Cry 6. Just remember, that cosmetic changes have no impact on the gameplay so this isn’t necessary unless you want to make your car look different.
As for the props, these are obtained by completing Gran Primo Races, Los Bandidos Operations, or opening Jewelry Boxes. The first two are simply side quests you can unlock by either reading information posters on the walls or by progressing through the story. For the unfamiliar, you should always read or talk to people with an exclamation point over their heads. They will almost always give you some new info about the world, hidden caches, or even the Gran Primo Races. Jewelry Boxes are small wooden boxes with ornate alligators on them. Opening one will typically earn you either a gun charm or some kind of vehicle prop.
If you want something more functional, vehicle weapons and counter defenses are unlocked by either completing a specific story/side quest or destroying military vehicles. If you’re looking to farm vehicles, taking over and using a checkpoint is the best method. Once you gain control of one you can simply shoot any enemy truck that passes by since their tires will get spiked. Plus, you will have the support of other guerrilla fighters.
How to Equip Cosmetics
You can equip any cosmetics (or weapons!) by opening up your menu and going to the “Ride” tab. From here, you can select which part you want to change, along with all the options you haven’t unlocked yet. Once you confirm what you want to alter about your vehicle, just exit out of the menu to have them instantly applied. You won’t need to go back to your base or a Vehicle Pickup to alter your car so feel free to do it on the fly!
