Division 2 Title Update 5 Guide: Release Date, Changes, New Content

The Division 2 Title Update 5 is the second major content update for the looter shooter, and coincides with the Episode 1 content drop, called D.C. Outskirts: Expeditions. The Division 2: Episode 1 will let you venture out of the city for the first time with two new missions and the game’s first Expedition, which are multi-part PVE events. Title Update 5 also includes changes to skills, crafting and exotics, which we’ll go over in detail below. Here’s everything you need to know about Title Update 5, including release dates and details on its new missions.

The Division 2 Title Update 5 Release Date

Title Update 5, which contains Episode 1 – DC Outskirts: Expeditions, will release on July 23, but not every player will be able to access all of it straightaway.

All balance changes, gameplay changes, new exotics and weapons will be available for everyone on July 23. However, the two new main missions and the first “investigation area” of the PVE Expedition—which will task you with finding survivors of a military convoy—will only be available on July 23 for Year One passholders.

If you don’t own the Year One pass, this content will unlock one week later, on July 30. For the Expedition, you’ll get to explore both the first and second areas straightaway. The third area will unlock a week later for all players.

Year One passholders also get two new classified assignments on July 23. If you don’t own the pass, you won’t be able to play them.

Division 2 Title Update 5 New Main Missions Detailed

Title Update 5 will add two new main missions.

The first is Manning National Zoo, which will see you hunt down Outcasts leader Emeline Shaw in the zoo, fighting through blockades to reach her.

The second is Camp White Oak. You’ll venture deep into woodlands to assault the Black Tusks and capture their leader.

Division 2 Episode 1: DC Outskirts – What Are Expeditions?

Expeditions are new PVE events that unfold in multiple stages. You’ll explore each “investigation area,” called a wing, as they unlock, with the ultimate goal of finding friendly survivors from an assaulted military convoy. Each wing is themed, and if you complete them all you’ll unlock a treasure room full of loot. Here’s the full story description:

When Agents receive what appears to be a final broadcast from a military convoy at Kenly College, they form an expedition to find any surviving members in need of rescue. Expeditions are split into three different wings for players to complete.

Division 2 Title Update 5: Operation Dark Hours Difficulty

The Division 2’s TU5 will add a new difficulty mode for the Operation Dark Hours raid, called Discovery. It’ll be the easiest of all the options, and is designed for first-time raiders. You won’t be able to find Exotic loot, but you’ll still receive “worthwhile” drops.

Division 2 Title Update 5: New Gear, Including an Exotic Weapon

Title Update 5 also adds a new exotic weapon, a new piece of exotic gear, and two new regular weapons.

The Diamondback Exotic Rifle is a lever-action rifle that will randomly mark an enemy for death: if you hit that enemy, you’re guaranteed a +20% damage critical hit, and another enemy will be marked. Once you’ve hit five marked enemies, you gain +50% reload speed, +20% total damage, and all shots fired are guaranteed critical hits for 10 seconds. The gun also gives you bonus armor whenever you load a round.

The BTSU Exotic Gloves affect skills that apply status effects, adding an extra 50% duration and 50% skill haste (see “skills and balance changes” below). Also, whenever you apply a status effect, your gloves become “infused” for 60 seconds, giving you +10% skill damage, +10% skill healing and repair, and +10% skill duration for each yellow battery item on your gear.

There are two new regular weapons in the Stoner LMG and Carbine 7 assault rifle as well.

Division 2 Crafting, Skills and Balance Changes

Title Update 5 makes hundreds of tweaks to The Division 2. The three most important, in our opinion, are:

  • Heroic Bosses now drop Exotics. You’ll only get Exotics you’re qualified for (that is, you might need the previous drop for world drop Exotics, or blueprint for crafted Exotics). Exclusive Exotics such as the Eagle Bearer from the Washington National Airport are not part of the loot pool.
  • A new Skill Haste mechanic replaces Cooldown Reduction. A 100% Skill Haste halves your skill’s cooldown time, and you can push it beyond 100%. Also, Specialization skill mods (from the talent tree) no longer require skill power to activate.
  • You can now upgrade your crafting bench to create gear up to Gear Score 500. You’ll need one gun and one gear piece of 490 Gear Score or higher to do it. You can also now recalibrate crafted gear and weapons.
