Destiny 2 Best Auto Rifles Guide – February 2020 Meta

Auto rifles don’t have the best track record in Destiny 2, typically being outclassed by SMGs at close range and pulse rifles at longer ones. That said, there are still some choices that stand out above the rest. Here are the best auto rifles to use in Destiny 2 PVE and PVP.

Sweet Business

After receiving some buffs late last year, the always-fun Sweet Business is now in a better position than ever across all Destiny 2 activities. It mows enemies down like nobody’s business in PVE, and its surprisingly high range and huge magazine makes it annoying to face in Crucible. You’ll have to learn the timing of its spinup when using it in the latter mode, but once you do it can be a beast. Its only major flaw is one shared with most Exotic primaries in the game — not being able to equip anti-Champion mods.

Great For: PVE, PVP, Gambit

Steelfeather Repeater

One of the Season of the Dawn’s new Saint-14-themed weapons, the Steelfeather Repeater is a rarity — a rapid-firing auto frame that has random rolls. And like the rest of the Sundial weapons, it can get some pretty great perks: Subsistence, Vorpal Weapon, and Swashbuckler, to name a few. In PVE it’s an absolute terror at clearing red bar enemies when rolled with Multikill Clip and Feeding Frenzy. Add in a reload masterwork and you’ve got a bullet hose that simply will not quit.

Great For: PVE, Gambit

Hard Light

Another Exotic auto rifle, Hard Light reliably shows up on lists of the most-used PVE weapons owing to its flexibility, but it has a place in the Crucible, too. The combination of no damage falloff at long range plus ricocheting shots makes it a useful distance skirmishing weapon in PVP situations, and PVE players will appreciate its ability to switch elemental types, especially in activities with the Match Game modifier. The one downside? It takes up like half of your screen.

Great For: PVE, Gambit
Good For: PVP

Destiny 2

One of the Season of the Undying Vex weapons, Pluperfect is a slow-firing but hard-hitting kinetic auto rifle. It’s a great choice for those who want to bring an auto rifle into Crucible while keeping their Exotic slot open, with high range and impact, plus perks like Rangefinder and Zen Moment. For PVE, you can’t go wrong with the classic Outlaw/Rampage combo.

Great For: PVP
Good For: PVE, Gambit

Age-Old Bond

Another high impact, high range auto rifle, Age-Old Bond doesn’t have as many potential rolls as some other similar weapons, but it does have access to some particularly nice perks — Ricochet Rounds, Kill Clip, and Ambitious Assassin, to name a few. And as a Void weapon, it’s great for stripping Envoy shields in Gambit.

Great For: PVE, Gambit
Good For: PVP
