How to Get Dark Market Credits in Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042 is finally here and it’s time to bring the explosive action this franchise has long defined. Set in the not-so-distant future, players can battle it out across massive maps that are being battered by superstorms. But all of that is set dressing — what really matters is the intense squad-based multiplayer experience draped in absolute chaos. One of the new additions to this franchise is Battlefield 2042’s Hazard Zone. A mix of Escape From Tarkov, Hunt: Showdown, and Battlefield, this mode has players battling it out over Data Drives.

The catch is you have to buy your weapons and gear beforehand with Dark Market Credits earned in this mode. This is easier said than done since there are a plethora of other squads attempting to steal these items. This guide will catch you up to speed on what you need to know.

How to Earn Dark Market Credits

There are three ways to earn Dark Market Credits during a game of Hazard Zone. The first is by killing A.I. controlled enemies, which are designated as “Occupying Forces.” Your second method is to kill player-controlled Specialists which are dubbed “No-Pats,” undoubtedly because they are being punished and do not deserve head pats. Finally, the main way to earn a lot of Dark Market Credits is by extracting Data Drives. This is the main item everyone is hunting. You will get 100 credits per drive.

Keep in mind that you need to actually extract to earn Dark Market Credits, so don’t expect any rewards for dying. There are no other ways to earn credits. However, you do not need to be alive to earn them. As long as your team actually extracts, you will get an equal share in the rewards. Because of this, you will want to ensure you attempt to extract every single match regardless of how many people have died.

Each person in a squad can hold three Data Drives for an overall total of 12. Some of the satellites that crash with drives will have multiple, so make sure to check if every panel on the side of the satellite is open. To locate Data Drives, make sure someone has the data drive scanner in their inventory. This is a free item, so you can always purchase it regardless of your credit count.

Holding this up will reveal the data drive’s location via a big circle on your HUD. Selecting this circle will highlight it for the rest of your team. If the circle is moving, that means another team has picked it up. You can steal drives from players, so don’t feel like you always need to go hunt them down right away. Sometimes, just ambushing your foes at the extraction site is the best way to get some easy drives.

Finally, weapons and gear need to be already unlocked in order to be purchasable on the buy screen. If you want to use the PP-29 submachine gun, you’ll need to hit Level 14 first. I recommend unlocking and testing out a bunch of guns so you can find your favorites before heading into Hazard Zone.
