The mid-season update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has officially released and there’s a bunch of new content for fans to sink their teeth into. Along with a new map and Zombie game mode called “Cranked,” players can earn a katana called the Wakizashi. Similar to previous weapons in other Call of Duty games, you will need to complete a challenge to obtain this weapon. Thankfully, it’s not that difficult especially since Nuketown 24/7 is still available. Here’s how to unlock the Wakizashi and embrace your inner samurai while you’re running around Miami.
How to Unlock Wakizashi
The Wakizashi can be unlocked by performing two Finishing Moves with the combat knife in ten different matches. This means you’ll need to do a total of 20 Finishing Moves and your progress will only count if you do two in a single game. Additionally, you’ll need to make sure you actually have the knife out when you initiate the Finishing Move, so get used to running around with this blade. At first glance, this can seem like a daunting challenge. Not only are people typically going to shoot you, but sneaking up on others can be tricky.
To give yourself an edge you’ll want to run Tactical Mask to reduce the effects of flash and stun grenades. Using these items, specifically, stun grenades, will help you close the gap on an unaware foe or one you think will turn around. Remember, you just need to get behind them and hold the melee button to trigger a Finishing Move. Tactical Mask will make this much easier. You’ll also want to run Tracker so you can follow someone trying to give you the slip. Finally, Ninja is a must run as it will make your footsteps much quieter, allowing you to sneak up behind people and stab them to death.

As for maps, I recommend either 24/7 Nuketown or Sanatorium. The former is a very small map that has constantly shifting spawns. This makes it easy to sneak behind people — especially those camping in buildings — to deliver a finisher. Smoke grenades are also popular on Nuketown since the map is tiny you can easily envelop an entire area in gas. Doing this lets you slip by enemies and get behind them. Just make sure you’re safe during the Finishing Move, as dying during the animation won’t count!
If the chaos of Nuketown isn’t your jam, then load up Sanatorium. This is the new map introduced via the mid-season update. Since players are still learning the layout you will have a much easier time slipping behind enemies. Just be careful not to flip the spawn points or you might end up with no one to stab!
