Borderlands 3 Amara Guide – Skill Tree, Action Skills, Perks & Abilities

Borderlands 3 is chock full of wild and wacky characters. It’s a real hallmark of the series! But the zany character designs aren’t limited to just NPCs. Every playable class in Borderlands 3 also comes with its own unique personalities — mostly showcased through their unique Action Skills. These tricks of the trade are so unique, however, that it can be difficult to know where to start. That’s why we’ve decided to make skill guides for every single character in Borderlands 3. And this time we’re taking a look at Amara in our latest Borderlands 3 class guide. Let’s dive right in, shall we?

Before we start, though, you should also know how skill trees break down in Borderlands 3. And they work a lot like in the previous two games! You have three total trees to choose from per character class. You then pump skill points into each ability, improving them as you go, an unlocking further tiers along the tree. Generally speaking, the higher the tier, the flashier the ability. So it pays to see what each tree has going for it further down the line!

Mystical Assault Skill Tree

Phasecast (Action Skill)

Amara sends forward an astral projection of herself, dealing damage to everything in its path.

Damage: 133
Cooldown: 22 seconds

Action Skill Augments

Soul Sap (Tier 2) 

A portion of all damage dealt by Amara’s action skill is returned to her or a nearby ally as health.

Life Steal: 30% of skill damage dealt

Reverberation (Tier 3)

Amara sends forward an astral projection of herself, dealing damage to everything in its path. Astral projection deals increased damage for every enemy it hits.

Damage: 116
Damage Bonus: +50% per enemy hit
Cooldown: 24 seconds

Stillness of Mind (Tier 3)

Enemies damaged by Amara’s action skill become phaselocked until they are damaged or the duration ends. However, action skill cooldown is increased. If Amara targets an enemy with phasegrasp, enemies near the grasped target are phaselocked.

Damage: -35%
Max Duration: 6 seconds

Deliverance (Tier 4)

Amara sends forward an astral projection of herself, dealing damage to everything in its path. Whenever Amara’s astral projection hits an enemy, it releases homing elemental projectiles that trigger her action skill elemental effect on enemies.

Damage: 124
Elemental Projectiles: 3 per enemy hit
Cooldown: 24 seconds

Tandava (Tier 5)

Amara sends forward an astral projection of herself. When it hits a target, it explodes, damaging all nearby enemies.

Damage: 166
Cooldown: 28 seconds

Passive Abilities

Tier 1

Do Harm (0/5)

Killing an enemy grants Amara a stack of Rush. Activating her action skill consumes all Rush stacks. For every stack of Rush consumed, Amara’s action skill damage is temporarily increased.

Fast Hand(s) (0/3)

Amara’s reload speed, weapon swap speed, and mode switch speed are improved.

Reload Speed: +4%

Violent Tapestry (0/5)

Applying an elemental effect grants Amara a stack of Rush. Activating her action skill consumes all Rush stacks. For every stack of Rush consumed, Amara’s elemental effect chance is temporarily increased.

Tier 2

Alacrity (0/5)

Amara gains increased reload speed for every stack of Rush. After consuming Rush stacks, this bonus is increased for a few seconds.

Reload Speed After Kill: +0.6% after action skill use
Duration: 8 Seconds

Transcend (0/3)

Amara gains increased accuracy and critical hit bonus for a few seconds after activating her action skill.

Accuracy: +11%
Critical Hit Bonus: +9%

Restless (0/5)

Amara gains increased action skill cooldown rate.

Cooldown Rate: +4%

Tier 3

Ascendant (0/1)

All action skill augments gain increased effects.

Soul Sap Lifesteal: +20%
Allure Radius: +100%
Glamour Duration: +50%
Bright Star Damage: +25%
Stillness of Mind: Breaks 0.75 seconds after being damaged

Tier 4

From Rest (0/3)

Amara gains improved fire rate and charge time.

Fire Rate: +4%
Charge Time: +26%

Laid Bare (0/3) 

Enemies take increased damage from all sources for a few seconds after bring damaged by Amara’s action skill.

Damage Increase: +5%
Duration: 8 seconds

Wrath (0/3) 

Amara gains increased gun damage. This effect is increased after she activates her action skill for a few seconds.

Gun Damage: +3%
Gun Damage: +5% after action skill use
Duration: 8 seconds

Tier 5

Remnant (0/3)

When Amara kills an enemy with a gun or action skill, she creates a homing projectile that seeks out a new enemy dealing her action skill elemental damage. Any overkill damage is added to the projectile’s damage.

Remnant Damage: 33

Awakening (0/3)

Amara’s Rush stacks gain increased effectiveness.

Rush Stack Effectiveness: +10%

Tier 6

Avatar (0/1)

Amara’s action skill can be activated while it’s cooling down. This skill may only be used once per completed cooldown. Additionally, increases Amara’s max rush stacks.

Bonus Rush Stacks: +10

Fist of the Elements Skill Tree

Phasegrasp (Action Skill)

Amara summons a giant fist that bursts from the ground and locks the targeted enemy in place for a few seconds. Some enemies are immune to being grasped and instantly take damage instead.

Skill Duration: 7 seconds
Cooldown: 13 seconds
Grasp Immune Damage: 66

Action Skill Augments

Soulfire (Tier 2) 

Converts Amara’s action skill to fire damage. This does not take effect until after Amara uses her action skill.

The Eternal Fist (Tier 3)

Amara summons a giant fist that bursts from the ground and locks the target enemy in place for a few seconds. Whenever the grasped enemy is killed, up to 3 new targets can be sought out and grasped.

Bonus Targets: Up to +4
Cooldown: 23 seconds
Grasp Immune Damage: 66

Allure (Tier 3)

Amara’s action skill creates singularities that pull in enemies.

Action Skill Damage: -25%

2.5 seconds

Ties that Bind (Tier 4)

Amara summons a giant fist that bursts from the ground and locks the targeted enemy in place for a few seconds. Enemies near the grasped target are linked, and any damage dealt to a linked target is shared between all other linked targets.

Link Damage: 35% of damage dealt
Cooldown: 17 seconds
Grasp Immune Damage: 80

Fist Over Matter (Tier 5)

Amara summons a giant fist that bursts from the ground and locks the targeted enemy in place for a few seconds. After grasping the targeted enemy, large fists appear and constantly smash the area, dealing damage to nearby enemies.

Damage: 21
Cooldown: 33 seconds
Grasp Immune Damage: 93

Passive Abilities

Tier 1

Anima (0/5)

Amara’s elemental effects deal increased damage over time and have increased duration. Her action skill elemental effect deals further increased damage.

Steady Hand(s) (0/3)

Amara gains increased weapon handling and accuracy.

Handling: +12%

Convert a portion of damage dealt by Amara’s weapons into her action skill element.

Converted Damage: 4%

Tier 2

Tempest (0/5)

Amara deals increased elemental damage. Shock damage is further increased.

Shock Damage: +8%
Elemental Damage: +4%

Illuminated Fist (0/1)

Amara gains increased melee damage and her melee damage is converted to her action skill element.

Melee Damage: +28%

Wildfire (0/5)

Whenever Amara applies an elemental effect to an enemy, it has a chance to spread to a nearby enemy.

Spread Chance: 8%

Tier 3

Dread (0/1)

Amara’s gun damage is increased for a few seconds after an enemy is grasped. Whenever any player kills a grasped enemy, their current weapon is instantly reloaded.

Weapon Damage: +10%
Duration: 8 seconds

Tier 4

Indiscriminate (0/3)

Amara’s bullets that damage enemies have a chance to ricochet and deal decreased damage to other nearby enemies. Ricochet chance and damage are increased if the target is currently affected by phasegrasp or stillness of mind.

Ricochet Damage: -50%
Action Skill Ricochet Chance: 20%
Action Skill Ricochet Damage: -25%

Deep Well (0/1) 

Amara gains increased magazine size with elemental weapons.

Magazine Size: 20%

Catharsis (0/3)

Whenever Amara triggers an elemental effect on an enemy, when that enemy dies that enemy explodes, dealing her attuned element damage along with any other element that is currently inflicted upon that enemy. This skill has a short cooldown.

Damage: 13
Cooldown: 8 seconds

Tier 5

Sustainment (0/5)

Amara gains life steal whenever she deals elemental damage with her weapon.

Life Steal: +4%

Conflux (0/5)

Whenever Amara applies an elemental effect to an enemy, she gains a chance to randomly electrocute, burn, or melt that enemy.

Extra Effect Chance: 7%

Tier 6

Forceful Expression (0/1)

Amara’s guns deal bonus elemental damage, based on her action skill element.

Brawl Skill Tree

Phaseslam (Action Skill)

Amara leaps into the air and slams the ground, dealing damage to all nearby enemies and knocking them up.

Damage: 141
Cooldown: 26 seconds

Action Skill Augments

Blight Tiger (Tier 2) 

Converts Amara’s action skill to corrosive damage. This does not take effect until after Amara uses her action skill.

Fracture (Tier 3)

Amara summons a handfull of fists that erupt from the ground, dealing damage to enemies in front of Amara.

Damage: 124
Cooldown: 26 seconds

Revelation (Tier 3)

Amara’s action skill now creates a nova when it damage enemies, dealing damage to all nearby enemies.

Nova Damage: 41

Downfall (Tier 4)

Amara leaps into the air and shoots an elemental beam below her briefly, followed by a slam.

Damage: 141
Beam Damage: 21 per second
Cooldown: 36 seconds

Glamour (Tier 5)

Enemies damaged by Amara’s action skill become confused and temporarily attack their allies. However, action skill cooldown is increased. If Amara targets an enemy with phasegrasp, enemies near the grasped target are confused as well.

Passive Abilities

Tier 1

One With Nature (0/5)

Amara gains increased max health and elemental damage resistance to her action skill element.

Max Health: +5%
Elemental Damage Reduction: +12%

Personal Space (0/3)

Amara’s weapon shots deal bonus damage based on the distance to her target. The closer the target, the greater the bonus.

Bonus Damage: Up to 11% of damage dealt

Clarity (0/5)

Amara constantly regenerates health. The lower her health, the more powerful the regeneration. After using an action skill, this bonus is doubled for a few seconds.

Health Regeneration: Up to +1% of missing health per second
Duration: 5 seconds

Tier 2

Arms Deal (0/5)

Amara deals increased splash damage, and takes reduced splash damage.

Splash Damage: +3%
Splash Damage Reduction: +3%

Root to Rise (0/5)

Amara gains increased max health.

Max Health: +5%

Helping Hand(s) (0/5)

For a few seconds after using her action skill, Amara’s arms remain active and grant her damage reduction.

Damage Reduction: +4%
Duration: 8 seconds

Tier 3

Mindfulness (0/3)

Whenever Amara takes damage, she gains a stack of Mindfulness. For every stack of Mindfulness, Amara gains improved shield regeneration delay and movement speed. Stacks decay after a few seconds.

Max Mindfullness Stacks: 25
Duration: 5 seconds

Find Your Center (0/1)

Amara gains increased melee damage. Additionally, for a few seconds after using her action skill, Amara gains increased melee range.

Killing an enemy with Amara’s action skill grants all allies increased movement speed for a few seconds. This effect stacks.

Whenever Amara deals damage to an enemy with her action skill, she adds a stack of Samsara. For every stack of Samsara, Amara gains increased gun damage and health regeneration for a few seconds. Stacks decay after a few seconds.

Do unto Others (0/1)

Whenever an enemy damages Amara, she automatically throws an energy orb back at them, dealing action skill elemental damage. This skill has a short cooldown.

Whenever Amara deals melee damage to an enemy, she gains increased action skill damage and increased weapon damage for a few seconds.

Guardian Angel (0/1)

When Amara enters fight for your life, she immediately gains a second wind, restores her health, and creates an action skill elemental nova that knocks back nearby enemies. This skill has a long cooldown.

Tier 6

Blitz (0/1)

Melee Override. Press RS to make Amara dash a short distance forward and perform a special melee strike, dealing elemental melee damage. If a Blitz melee attack kills an enemy, Blitz’s cooldown is immediately reset.
