Apex Legends Valkyrie Guide – How to Unlock Valkyrie in Season 9

No Where to Run

Apex Legends Season 9 is here and this one is for the Titanfall 2 fans. Along with some big changes to Olympus, Season 9 also introduces the Bocek Bow and a new hero called Valkyrie. The daughter of Titanfall 2 pilot Viper, Valkyrie brings her modified Northstar to the arena. With the ability to hover, fire missiles, and relocate her team, this legend will certainly shake up the arena. So if you’re like me and want to play her right as the season drops, here’s how to unlock this new legend.

How to Unlock Valkyrie

The only way to unlock Valkyrie is by spending either 12,000 Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins. You can earn the Legend Tokens by leveling up your core account (not your Battle Pass), while the Apex Coins must be purchased with real-world money. You will need to spend at least $10 to purchase Valkyrie since you cannot just buy the exact amount needed to unlock her. There is no other way to gains access to Valkyrie, so if you don’t want to shell out some cash, then get ready to grind some levels. How long this takes will vary based on your level, as those just starting out will have a much easier time accruing Legend Tokens than those at or above Level 100.

A recon legend, Valkyrie revolves around using her repurposed Northstar to gain a height advantage during combat, rain down hellfire, or reposition her entire squad. Her passive is VTOL Jets, which allows you to hover in the air by holding the jump button. Keep in mind, you won’t gain any upward verticality, so make sure to use a legend like Horizon to propel her into the air. This passive can be switch to either Hold or Toggle in the menu. Critically, Valkyrie cannot aim or fire her weapon while propelling herself upwards.

Her Tactical Skill is Missile Swarm which fires a volley of rockets in a rectangle pattern that disorientates and damages any enemies caught in it. if you’re worried about the damage, these rockets only do 25 damage per hit and their spread makes it unlikely you’ll be struck by more than one or two. However, the stun and slowing effect will most likely cause your death since it allows enemies to be easily picked off.

Finally, Valkyre’s ultimate is Skyward Dive which acts as a mobile Jump Tower. This allows not only Valkyre, but her entire squad to launch into the air to redeploy somewhere else. Keep in mind, there’s a brief wind-up before she launches into the air, so I don’t recommend doing this out in the open. You also rocket up into the air in a straight line, making it easy for people to shoot at you before you’re able to fly freely. That being said, Skyward Dive is great for those who like to rotate late or even fight in the storm. It gives her team more mobility, allowing them to quickly obtain the high ground during fights or escape before the dreaded third party arrives.
