Season 5 of Apex Legends arrives later today and it’s introducing a number of changes including alterations to the King’s Canyon map, a new PvE mode, and Battle Pass. Of course the big draw is the latest playable legend and master thief, Loba. Revolving around finding and stealing the best loot, Loba is a mobile utility hero that is looking to shake up the meta. However, similar to other new characters, Loba won’t be available right away.
How to Unlock Loba
The only way to unlock Loba is by spending either 12,000 Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins. You can earn the Legend Tokens by leveling up your core account (not your Battle Pass), while the Apex Coins must be purchased with real-world money. You will need to spend at least $10 to purchase Loba since you cannot just purchase the exact amount needed to unlock her. There is no other way to gains access to Loba, so if you don’t want to shell out some cash, then get ready to grind some levels. How long this takes will vary based on your level, as those just starting out will have a much easier time accruing Legend Tokens then those at or above Level 100.
For the unfamiliar, Loba is a utility legend that is capable of seeing Legendary and Epic tier loot through walls. The range is the same as her ultimate, which will give Loba players an advantage at grabbing key gear. This makes her especially dangerous when players jump into the Hot Zone since Loba can quickly find where the Legendary item is hidden. Her tactical ability is a bracelet that allows Loba to teleport to its location, regardless of where it lands. When primed, players will see an arc appear on screen indicating where the item will go when thrown.
This skill will make Loba a dangerous foe since she can quickly appear behind enemies or above them. It’s also going to be a terrific escape tool since it’s a little harder to track in the middle of a battle than Wraith’s warp or Octane’s Jumppad. Finally, Loba’s Ultimate creates a large pulse that emanates from where she places her staff. Once triggered, Loba, her team, and even enemies can access this black market and pick up to two items that were caught in the initial pulse. It’s unclear right now if this will affect Death Boxes, but it will serve as a nice way to quickly resupply your team during a hectic fight.
Finally, Season 5 will see the destruction of Skull Town, which has sunk into the ocean. There also appears to be a new location that acts as a recharge station for your Ultimate. In the gameplay trailer, we see a Gibraltar activate a large device that instantly charges his ultimate. How long and what is required to do this is unknown, but being able to get your Ultimate right away will certainly turn the tide of some battles.
Apex Legends Season 5 goes live on PC, PS4, and Xbox One today around 10 am PST.
