The latest season of Apex Legends is set to arrive later today and it’s introducing a wealth of new features to Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale game. Along with a brand new map, Clubs, challenge tuning, and meta alterations, there’s a brand new character players can try out. Dubbed “Horizon,” this scientist is a master of gravity and traversal, allowing players to quickly relocate or trap enemies in a black hole. This makes her especially dangerous since being able to essentially remove a team’s mobility, even temporarily, can easily swing the fight in your favor.
How to Unlock Horizon
The only way to unlock Horizon is by spending either 12,000 Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins. You can earn the Legend Tokens by leveling up your core account (not your Battle Pass), while the Apex Coins must be purchased with real-world money. You will need to spend at least $10 to purchase Horizon since you cannot just buy the exact amount needed to unlock her. There is no other way to gains access to Horizon, so if you don’t want to shell out some cash, then get ready to grind some levels. How long this takes will vary based on your level, as those just starting out will have a much easier time accruing Legend Tokens than those at or above Level 100.
For the unfamiliar, Horizon is a legend that revolves around manipulating the battlefield. Her Tactical Ability is Gravity Lift, which greats a vertical lift that raises anyone inside up several stories. This can be used to quickly scale buildings, acquire the high ground, or escape a tricky fight. Alternatively, this ability can be used against enemies to dislocate them or make them easier to hit. As for her passive, Spacewalk simply gives her better in-air movement control and she won’t stagger when jumping from a significant height. On its own, this may not sound too impressive, but when combined with her tactical, Spacewalk allows Horizon to land and engage enemies faster than her allies or enemies.
Finally, Horizon’s Ultimate Ability creates a large black hole that sucks all enemies near it into the center. Players can then shoot those trapped in the black hole or throw a grenade into it to devastate anyone trapped inside. This ultimate should not be overlooked, as it can help teams wipe entire squads in one swift motion. Because of this, you’ll want to always spread out a bit when battling against a Horizon. Huddling close together will make her even deadlier, so try to not stick too close. Some good legends to pair her with are Gibraltar, Revenant, and Caustic since they can capitalize on her added mobility and ultimate.
If you’re looking to hop into Season 7, be prepared to battle on a new map titled Olympus. A floating city, Olympus is a mix of open roads, gardens, and urban settings which offers a nice amount of verticality. You’ll also be able to zip around on the new Trident vehicles, which are hovercraft that can fit an entire squad. Just be careful of Arc Stars, as they will disable the vehicle if struck by the EMP blast!
Apex Legends Season 7 launches later today at 8 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET.
