Heirlooms are the rarest cosmetic items you can unlock in Apex Legends. Special melee weapons tied specifically to each legend, Heirlooms come with their own unique animation effect you can trigger while idle. While only a few are available at the time of writing this, Heirlooms are still highly desired by players. Unfortunately, you unlock them you will need to spend either a lot of money or play a ton of Apex Legends. This can be a bit frustrating to those who are new to Apex Legends or haven’t been playing since the game released. If you’re looking to pick up an Heirloom for your favorite legend, here is how to unlock them.
How to Unlock Heirlooms
You can unlock Heirlooms by either opening 500 Apex Packs or by purchasing all of the cosmetics during a limited-time event where that Heirloom is available. The latter is the most direct method, but you won’t get a say in what Heirloom you unlock. For example, during the Lost Treasures’ event, you had to buy all 24 cosmetic items to earn the Mirage Heirloom. This means you will need to spend a minimum of $160 to unlock Mirage’s Heirloom, which is obviously not ideal. Additionally, you will have zero say in what the Heirloom is, as it will be directly tied to whatever the cosmetic event offers. Once an event is over, that Heirloom will rotate into the Heirloom portion of the store.
Now, your only way to unlock Heirlooms from previous events is to obtain Heirloom Shards which are a guaranteed drop every 500th Apex Pack. How you get those Apex Packs doesn’t matter, so you can either earn them by leveling up your account, the battle pass, or just by purchasing them. Once you obtain the Heirloom Shards, you can go to the store and purchase the Heirloom of your choice. Once you purchase the Heirloom you will unlock a special pose and voice line along with the melee weapon. Currently, only Lifeline, Octane, Mirage, Bloodhound, Pathfinder, and Wraith have Heirlooms. However, there are reports that Caustic and Bangalore will be the
Keep in mind, the Heirloom gives no specific advantage to players and serves simply as a cosmetic skin. Because of this, I only recommend just trying to unlock Heirloom Shards by opening loot boxes. Unless you are a diehard fan of a specific legend and play a lot, there’s really no reason to own one of these items. Sure, they’re cool, but the extra flair isn’t worth the price tag that’s associated with them.
For the unfamiliar, Season 6 has officially begun and it’s introduced the new legend Rampart, Volt SMG, various cosmetics, and a bunch of map changes to World’s Edge. Season 6 also introduces crafting which allows players to make their own weapons, armor, and supplies from materials they find in the world. Since some items are directly tied to the crafting machines, it’s critical that users seek these out if they want a specific piece of gear.
Apex Legends’ Season 6 is live on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
