The eighth season of Apex Legends is set to arrive later today and it’s introducing a wealth of new features to Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale game. Along with a brand new weapon, King’s Canyon changes, and meta alterations, there’s a brand new character players can try out. Called “Fuse,” this scoundrel is all about making things go boom. An aggressive legend that can deal quite a bit of damage, Fuse is for those who prefer brute force and chaos.
How to Unlock Fuse
The only way to unlock Fuse is by spending either 12,000 Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins. You can earn the Legend Tokens by leveling up your core account (not your Battle Pass), while the Apex Coins must be purchased with real-world money. You will need to spend at least $10 to purchase Fuse since you cannot just buy the exact amount needed to unlock her. There is no other way to gains access to Fuse, so if you don’t want to shell out some cash, then get ready to grind some levels. How long this takes will vary based on your level, as those just starting out will have a much easier time accruing Legend Tokens than those at or above Level 100.
For the unfamiliar, Fuse is an aggressive legend that specializes in explosives. His passive allows him to stack grenades in his inventory and use his mechanical arm to launch them. The latter impacts the grenades throw speed, distance, and arc. Given how extremely powerful stacking grenades were when the game first released, it’ll be interesting to see how this impacts the meta. Additionally, Fuse can launch a Knuckle Cluster, which is an airburst explosive that can deal a total of 50 damage. This grenade can also stick to surfaces, enemies, and even Crypto’s drone!
Finally, Fuse’s ultimate is The Motherlode. When primed, Fuse will be able to fire a mortar that releases a massive ring of fire. This deals heavy damage to anyone who comes in contact with it, burning them for a few seconds after they exit the ring. Unlike Gibraltar and Bangalore’s ultimate, Fuse’s can be fired indoors. However, it will hit the ceiling and immediately crash down. Since Fuse can hurt himself, I only recommend doing this as a last-ditch effort or if you need to create some space between you and the enemy team. In terms of legend pairs, I suspect Fuse will work wonders with Caustic and Horizon. The former can gas the center of the ring, while Horizon can pull people into the fire.
In terms of counters, expect Wattson to be a popular pick. Her ultimate can nullify all of Fuse’s abilities, keeping her team safe and rendering the majority of this legend’s skills useless. Another potential counter is Octane, Wraith, or even Pathfinder. Their high mobility will allow them to escape Fuse’s Motherlode and grenades, letting them swiftly close the gap.
Apex Legends’ Season 8 goes live at 10 a.m. PST for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and PC.
