The Death Stranding Baby Speaks Through PS4 Controller Speaker Because Of Course it Does

Kojima needs to chill, y'all

In an effort to make Death Stranding’s consistently horrifying baby-related imagery more horrifying, Hideo Kojima has confirmed the baby you’ll be carrying around in the game will speak to you through the DualShock 4 controller’s speaker when the game launches in November.

Kojima announced this via his personal Twitter, along with photos of the pee-yellow Death Stranding controller and black-and-white PS4 Pro set to be released on November 8 on the same day as the game.

So now not only will these babies and their pods just be this weird thing you’ll carry around in the Death Stranding game, now you personally will carry around their spirit in your own hands through your controller as they attempt to communicate with you through the speaker Sony probably didn’t expect to be used this way when it included the tech six years ago.

On a related note, if you hold down the PlayStation button on your DualShock 4 and scroll up to Sound/Devices on the menu, you can turn the volume of the controller speaker all the way down.

The Bridge Babies, as they’re called in the world of Death Stranding, have been key figures in the game’s marketing since it was initially revealed at Sony’s 2016 E3 press conference. That first trailer had protagonist Sam (played by Walking Dead star Norman Reedus) holding one while crying and then a later trailer showed one giving a thumbs up inside the character’s throat. It’s a whole thing. These babies have some major story and mechanical ramifications supposedly, but until we’ve got the game in our hands and can really see how it all works for ourselves, these babies and the pods characters carry them around in have mainly just been a really unnerving thing for us to have to look at in each trailer and gameplay breakdown Kojima Productions has released.
