Capcom has announced that it will be creating one final season of Street Fighter V content, bringing new fighters, stages, and costumes to the fighting game as the team moves on to whatever’s next.
News of this came from a post on the Capcom Unity blog, which revealed that Street Fighter V’s fifth season will bring five new playable characters and three new stages to fight on. Here’s the relevant bit from the blog:
“We know our players are wondering what’s next for Street Fighter V, so we have some exciting news to share. Due to the positive reception to Season 4 and Champion Edition, we are planning to do a final Season “V”, which will add “V” more fighters to the roster. Three new stages are also being planned.
That’s all for now, but we’ll be back later this summer to share more details regarding the new content coming to Street Fighter V. For now, please continue enjoying everything included in Champion Edition.”
These five new fighters will bring Street Fighter V’s total roster to 45 characters, which is nearly 30 characters more than the 16 fighters the game had when it launched in 2016. While it might not be as pronounced as some redemption stories in the industry like Destiny or No Man’s Sky, Capcom has really stuck with Street Fighter V after a rocky launch.
Along with announcing the fifth season, Capcom also announced it’s holding a content for costume designers to create a new outfit for a fighter to wear in-game. From the looks of it, the community will be voting on which designs they want to see in the game, so hopefully this doesn’t skew too heavily to artists with massive followings and that artists who don’t have that same clout will still have a chance. The two winning submissions will be recreated in Street Fighter V, and the winning artists will receive an exclusive in-game item that will represent them winning the contest. As such, it doesn’t look like there is any monetary compensation for any work artists do here, so keep that in mind if you’re considering taking part.

As this means Street Fighter V support is coming to a close, a sixth mainline Street Fighter could hypothetically be in the works, but there are rumors floating around that Capcom’s fighting game team is working on another crossover fighting game that might feature Devil May Cry V’s new character V, based on tweets from the character’s voice actor. The actor has since denied any knowledge of a new game, but we’ll see if V ends up a playable character in a new Marvel vs. Capcom one of these days.
While EVO isn’t going to be taking place in person this year, Street Fighter V will still be a featured game in the digital event being held in July.
