Sony Announces Third-Party-Focused State of Play

No, God of War won't be there.

Sony is hosting another State of Play presentation, this time to showcase upcoming third-party games coming to the PlayStation 5.

In a post to the PlayStation Blog, the company confirmed the stream will take place next Wednesday, October 27, at 2 p.m. Pacific/5 p.m. Eastern. The State of Play will run for about 20 minutes and spotlight some previously announced games, as well as a few new reveals from [Sony’s] partners around the world.” So just in case it was not clear, it doesn’t look like we’re hearing any updates on PlayStation Studio games like God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon: Forbidden West, or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. And we’re gonna have five days to process and accept that, so I’m sure the internet will be perfectly reasonable when Kratos and Atreus don’t show up.

In other news:

As for what we might see, a third-party State of Play is pretty broad, so it’s hard to even speculate what Sony might be putting the spotlight on. My personal hopes? A new look at Final Fantasy XVI seems overdue at this point considering the game is supposedly pretty far along. Perhaps it’s better to not ponder it too much, lest we end up with lofty expectations that cannot possibly be matched?

The State of Play will be watchable through PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels.
