Resident Evil 2 Remake Appears to be Getting a Resident Evil 3 Update

Something related to Jill Valentine is on the way.

Something of unknown size and nature is coming to the Resident Evil 2 remake that will tie it into the Resident Evil 3 remake that was officially unveiled yesterday during Sony’s State of Play presentation after it leaked last month.

A new achievement was added to the game on Steam called “Chasing Jill.” This is a reference to Jill Valentine, a staple of the franchise and one of the playable characters in Resident Evil 3. The achievement is unlocked by reading a letter from Jill, but as there’s no real news on what it takes to find that letter, it’s unknown at this point if this is going to be something as big as DLC levels or something smaller along the lines of a patched-in easter egg referencing the new game coming in April of next year.

When asked about the achievement on Twitter, Capcom’s Resident Evil community manager Katastrophe said there’d be an update on this “real soon.”

The Resident Evil 3 remake is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 3, 2020, and will also include the multiplayer mode Resident Evil: Resistance, which was originally marketed as its own separate game before the State of Play stream yesterday revealed it would be included with RE3.

The game looks gorgeous, too. With twenty years and three console generations between the original game and the remake, it’s gonna be fun to see how Capcom modernizes the look and feel of old characters and environments. If you haven’t seen the full trailer, you can check it out here:

Given that the Resident Evil 2 remake just surpassed five million copies sold, it’s natural that Capcom would want to slip in a little bit of advertising for the next one into its already successful game. But the company hasn’t just been looking internally for ways to keep the Resident Evil brand on player’s minds, as it’s had several crossover events this year with other Capcom games like Monster Hunter: World and even external crossovers with PUBG.

Remakes have and continue to be a major part of Capcom’s business in recent years, as the company has even said as much in its earning calls. But while Resident Evil fans have been getting some a bountiful harvest of repainted nostalgia on modern systems, until we get a remake of the extremely good PS2 horror game Haunting Ground there is no justice in the world.
