Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, one of the few announced and confirmed PlayStation 5 exclusives that Sony’s PlayStation Studios has in the works, officially has a release date: June 11.
Those who pre-order will get some in-game cosmetics, including a Carbonox Armor set that references the second game in the series: 2003’s Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. Along with a Pixelizer weapon, which was featured in the 2016 remake of the original Ratchet & Clank that accompanied the animated theatrical movie. This applies to both digital and physical pre-orders.
Those who want something a little more special and expensive can pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes all of the above along with more armor sets, a sticker pack for the game’s Photo Mode, in-game currency, and a digital soundtrack and art book.

Rift Apart holds the distinction of being one of the only confirmed PlayStation 5 exclusives coming out of Sony so far, as games like Horizon: Forbidden West and Sackboy: A Big Adventure are cross-generation games with PlayStation 4 versions as well. Even the sequel to God of War, which has only been revealed with a logo, hasn’t been confirmed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive just yet. The reason this matters is because that means Rift Apart won’t be held back by PlayStation 4’s hardware in terms of what it can do technically. But it does mean that PS4 owners will miss out unless they upgrade, and Insomniac is missing out on more sales considering the PS4’s established install base. It’s not uncommon for it to take time for companies to go all in on new hardware when it comes to developing games, so Rift Apart is an anomaly during the PS5’s first year.
Hopefully people will actually be able to track down PlayStation 5 systems by June, as the system has been hard to find since it launched in November thanks to shortages and scalpers.
Beyond returning to Ratchet & Clank, Insomniac just put out Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a sequel/spin-off to the 2018 original game. While it was shorter than a mainline sequel likely will be, it managed to use its hero to differentiate itself from Peter Parker’s story.
