For the first time on Nintendo consoles, the last three Persona titles are on the way. While the games had recently been announced for Xbox, PC, and PlayStation, Nintendo fans were worried they were going to be left out in the cold. As we found out from today’s Nintendo Direct, that’s not the case. Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal will be coming to Nintendo Switch starting with Royal on October 21 of this year.
It’s unclear why Nintendo waited quite so long to announce it — though, in the grand scheme of later Nintendo announcements, this one only took a few weeks. The ports coming to modern platforms at all was a big pop during Microsoft’s not-E3 presentation earlier this month when they were revealed for Xbox and PC. For whatever reason, it took another few days to confirm that the Persona titles were also coming to PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as Steam.
Now, a few weeks later and right before the month is done, Nintendo and Atlus have revealed that they will also be on Switch. Everyone can join in on the Persona love. The move actually kind of retroactively justifies the presence of Joker — Persona 5‘s protagonist — in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, though he already laid a little claim through Persona Q 2 on the 3DS.
While Persona 5 is obviously critically acclaimed, Persona 4 is the game that holds the softest place in my heart. The story of the Inaba Detective Club complete with that bright yellow UI and joyful music set against the dark, introspective tone of the story makes it my favorite. As for Persona 3, a game I also love, Linkshell Chief Michael Higham has already written about how it coming out to several new audiences is actually a pretty big deal.
“It takes itself a bit more seriously, which might not be the reason you came to Persona, to begin with,” he says. “But Persona 3 arguably has the best cast in the series, and the unmistakably dark story that still comes out hopeful in its own way makes it special. Don’t miss it when it comes to Game Pass.”
Or when it comes to Switch, for that matter. Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal are arriving on the platform at different times, same as the other consoles. Persona 5 Royal hits the soonest on October 21, while Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are coming sometime later down the line.
