Nick Offerman Has Stepped in As Bill in the HBO Last of Us Show

A scheduling conflict led to the role being recast.

Back in July, it was confirmed that Chernobyl actor Con O’Neil would be playing Bill in HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us. However, it looks like O’Neil won’t be playing the man who booby-trapped an entire town in the network’s depiction of this post-apocalyptic world, as Parks and Recreation actor Nick Offerman has stepped into the role.

Variety reported on the recast, which was later confirmed by Last of Us developer Naughty Dog on social media. The change in actors was apparently due to a scheduling conflict with O’Neil, which means Offerman will now be playing Bill alongside Murray Bartlett, who is playing the character’s partner Frank. Bill and Frank’s relationship was never seen on-screen in The Last of Us, which means the show is going to be filling in some gaps left by the game.

Offerman joins cast members like Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who will be playing main characters Joel and Ellie. Merle Dandrige will reprise her game role as Marlene in the show.

More Last of Us:

The first season of the Last of Us show will focus on the original game’s story of Joel and Ellie’s trip across the country to meet with a resistance group called The Fireflies. Presumably, if the first season is well-received, we may see an adaptation of The Last of Us Part II’s story of Ellie seeking revenge on a group in Seattle, but we’ll have to wait and see.
