After the success of a show like The Witcher, it’s only natural that Netflix would be ready to double down on video game adaptations for its streaming service. From the looks of it, Capcom’s long-running horror series Resident Evil is one of the next shows you’ll be able to binge, as the company seems to have mistakenly posted then promptly removed a synopsis for the show online.
The summary originally showed up in Netflix’s Media Center, but is now only viewable through the Wayback Machine Web Archive (Thanks Resident Evil wiki). It reads as follows:
“The town of Clearfield, MD has long stood in the shadow of three seemingly unrelated behemoths – the Umbrella Corporation, the decommissioned Greenwood Asylum, and Washington, D.C. Today, twenty-six years after the discovery of the T-Virus, secrets held by the three will start to be revealed at the first signs of outbreak.”
That’s all there is to go on so far. No mention on whether or not series mainstays like Jill Valentine, Leon Kennedy, or the Redfield siblings will make an appearance, nor how many episodes the series will have in its debut season.

Other things to consider are which Resident Evil series this would tie in to. While your mind might immediately go to the Resident Evil video games, the franchise also has a pretty successful live-action film series to draw from as well. While the last movie in that series was called The Last Chapter, that doesn’t mean a new TV series couldn’t take place in that universe with an adjacent cast and story. Who knows? Netflix might be looking to carve out its own Resident Evil universe not tied to any one canon. But we’ll have to wait until Netflix is ready to publicly discuss it, as right now it seems like this summary wasn’t meant to be seen by the public yet.
In the meantime, Resident Evil fans have games to look forward to, as the long-rumored remake of Resident Evil 3 is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in just under two months on April 3. In the lead up to the remake, Capcom patched the Resident Evil 2 remake to include references to the upcoming game.
The Witcher might be the latest hotness for Netflix, but the company has worked in video game adaptations outside of it, as well. One of the more prominent ones has been the animated Castlevania series, which is coming up on its third season set to launch on March 5. A Cuphead adaptation is also in the works, but details on that are much more scarce at this point.
While not original programming, the Ni No Kuni animated film was dubbed and streams exclusively on Netflix right now, and the Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back remake titled Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution will also be coming to the service later this month on February 27.
