In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, the case that has protected pregnant people’s rights to abortion access since 1973, an Itch.io charity bundle is launching with a plan to fight this nauseating ruling by donating proceeds to reproductive justice causes across America.
Organized by Abbey ‘Scruncho‘ Smith, a musician and Game Producer/Manager at lo-fi horror virtuoso Dread XP, the “Worthy of Better, Stronger Together” Itch.io bundle is currently open for submissions. Submissions for this reproductive rights bundle opened on June 28, 2022 and will run until July 1, 2022.
A statement on the Itch.io reproductive rights page referencing Roe v. Wade’s overruling reads:
“This decision does not only effect those capable of becoming pregnant. It is a determination of what rights we as a society choose to hold sacred. It is a question of who is deemed worthy of protecting. The fabric of our society is woven by every single member, to erode a single thread unravels us all. We must all take a stand and demand that our rights and bodily autonomy are federally recognized. To all those who are affected, you are seen, you are strong, and we are in this together. Every human being deserves basic rights. Worthy of better, stronger together.”
Abortion rights are vital, human rights for a plethora of reasons, and seeing them outlandishly stolen from American people should ignite a fire to fight for better. It isn’t the first time Itch,io has hosted a bundle like this; earlier this year there was the Queer Games Bundle 2022, which raised over $90,000 USD, and before that was the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality, which raised over $8,000,000 USD.
As we continue to see large game companies like Sony/PlayStation mince words and vocally muzzle workers on life-threatening issues of human rights, it’s becoming painstakingly obvious that mutual aid and protesting are our only salves in this hostile world.
If you have the means, the Worthy of Better, Stronger Together itch.io reproductive rights bundle will cost $10 (minimum), and will be live for purchases from July 1, 2022 at 3 pm CST to July 15, 2022 at 3 pm CST.
