Over the weekend, DC held its DC Fandome digital event, and while there was plenty there for just about everyone (unless you’re me, a Green Arrow and Injustice fan), on the games side, both Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Montreal got a chance to finally unveil their long-teased games: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Gotham Knights.
Unfortunately for one of these two projects, Rocksteady didn’t bring any actual gameplay for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, instead going for the cinematic trailer route. The four-minute trailer shows baddies-turned-good-guys-against-their-will Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang taking out some of Brainiac’s lackeys while being assigned a new high-priority target. Near the end of the trailer, Superman shows up, seemingly being controlled by Brainiac, and the group realizes that their high-priority target is none other than the Man of Steel himself. Given that the name of the game isn’t Suicide Squad: Kill Superman, it’s likely we’re going to see other major heroes under Brainiac’s control, so we should probably expect to see Batman, Wonder Woman, and others having lost out to Brainiac in the future. But Rocksteady has a fair amount of time to show these, as Suicide Squad isn’t coming out until 2022 at the earliest, and when it does, it will come to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
The studio explained that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be a cooperative game set in the Batman: Arkham universe, but if you want to play it alone and switch between characters, you can do that while CPUs control the rest of the group. Check out the teaser trailer below:
This announcement comes just a few days after it was brought to light that Rocksteady experienced a wave of harassment allegations in 2018, which some female employees felt weren’t adequately handled by the studio. There has since been a letter posted publicly claiming the initial report didn’t match some of the women at the company’s experience, but it’s worth noting that this went through the studio’s management before being published and that one person’s feelings on how things went down doesn’t invalidate someone else’s.

As for Gotham Knights, WB Montreal revealed that its next game will focus on the Bat Family after Batman’s death. It will also be coop-driven, letting you and a friend can play as Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood as you handle the state of Gotham City in a Bruce Wayne-less world.
Unlike Suicide Squad, Gotham Knights did get a fairly lengthy gameplay trailer showing how the Bat kids can work together in combat. There’s also some vehicle segments, but hopefully those are better than the tank sections in Batman: Arkham Knight. Gotham Knights will be a cross-gen game, coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2021.
While these were two pretty big announcements, we unfortunately didn’t hear anything about a new Injustice fighting game, which was seemingly being teased at the end of last month.
