Grand Theft Auto Online, L.A. Noire, and Max Payne 3 Are Losing Online Functionality on PS3 and Xbox 360

Shut downs will begin in September.

Rockstar has announced it’s shutting down the online features of three games on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3: Grand Theft Auto OnlineMax Payne 3, and L.A. Noire.

The company will start pulling the plug on September 16. It will no longer be possible to track stats through Rockstar Games Social Club in Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire on that day. Grand Theft Auto Online’s gradual shut down on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be in two phases. First, on September 16, it won’t be possible to buy Shark Cards, the game’s premium currency, on either system. Then, on December 16, Rockstar will shut down the game’s online features entirely.

In other news:

It’s worth noting that these changes won’t affect any of the game’s campaigns, but Grand Theft Auto Online is an entirely online game, so it won’t be playable on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 after December 16. In a post on the company’s website, Rockstar says it will be supporting the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, as well as the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. So if you want to keep playing, there are other means of doing so, but as the company said in its FAQ on the matter, there’s no way to bring any progress or character data from one system to another.
