Ghost of Tsushima’s Multiplayer is Getting a Standalone Release Alongside New Modes and Content

Sucker Punch is releasing Ghost of Tsushima’s “Legends” multiplayer mode as a standalone thing, so if you wanted to try out the cooperative suite without the open-world single-player game, there will be an option to do that. And it will also be coming as the studio is releasing a new mode called “Rivals,” which will add a competitive element.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, the developer revealed that it will be bringing new updates to Legends, which will launch as a standalone product on September 3, two weeks after Ghost of Tsushima’s “Director’s Cut” brings a new island to the single-player campaign. Buying Legends on its own will cost you $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99, and it will come with all the same content found in the base game except for any unlockables that can only be acquired through playing the story. If you buy Legends and decide you want to pick up the full game, you’ll be able to upgrade for a discounted price of $40 / €50 /£44 on PS4 or $50 / €60 / £54 for PS5.

On the same day, the new Rivals mode will launch, as well. It will be a 2v2 mode where players will fight waves of enemies and have opportunities to hinder the opposing team’s progress. Check out the trailer below:

Along with all of the above, Sucker Punch is also going to be rolling out updates for Legends, beginning on August 20. The first update will be rebalancing the multiplayer suite’s Survival mode to shorten games, as well as new weekly challenge variants. Then, from September 10 to October 1, new Legends content will be added weekly, including new maps for Rivals and Survival, a higher-difficulty Raid, and a new set on online leaderboards.

Back in June, a change to the original Ghost of Tsushima box art kickstarted speculation that the game might be headed to PC, which Sony has started doing recently with games like Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn.
