Genshin Impact Getting a PS5 Version This Spring

The popular gacha game will soon roll out its characters on the PlayStation 5.

Genshin Impact, the popular free-to-play open-world action game that pulls in over $100 million in revenue a month, will soon be getting its first next-gen version in short time. It will add a PlayStation 5 version to the game’s existing userbase of mobile, PC, and PS4.

The news comes from the official PlayStation Twitter account which proffered a small trailer to show the new port. The tweet mentions enhanced visuals, faster loading (thank GOD), and Dualsense support. What it doesn’t mention is a release date, beyond simply saying Spring.

Genshin Impact got a PS5 patch for the PS4 version shortly after launch, which made the backwards-compatible PS4 version run at 60 frames-per-second when played on a PS5. This native port seems to be doing a lot more.

One thing neither PlayStation nor developer Mihoyo indicate is whether the PS4’s lack of cross-progression is in any way affected by a PS5 version. PC and mobileĀ Genshin players can freely migrate between the two, but the PS4 had always been locked out. It is unclear whether or not that might be changing or if PS5 players remain stuck in the Sony ecosystem.
