The Genshin Impact 2.8 update, Summer Fantasia, launches July 13 with a Shikanoin Heizou banner. HoYoverse announced its next big patch during its usual Special Program stream, revealing the Summertime Odyssey seasonal event, new outfits, and story updates.
After development difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Genshin Impact‘s update schedule is back on track. The latest Special Program from HoYoverse revealed everything coming for Teyvat’s usual summertime festivities. If you missed it, no worries—we’ll break down everything announced in the Genshin Impact 2.8 livestream.
Next Genshin Impact Banner – Shikanoin Heizou
It’s time for another banner refresh, and this one should shake the roster up a bit more. During the Special Program, HoYoverse shared a teaser trailer celebrating Shikanoin Heizou’s debut. Heizou joins the cast as Genshin’s first melee catalyst user and fights with unarmed Anemo Elemental abilities. That is to say; he’s not what you’d expect from the usual safe range catalyst characters give you.
As a four-star character, Heizou accompanies rerun banners for five-star characters Klee and his friend, Kaedehara Kazuha. Those characters should run in the first phase banner, while Yomiya returns in the latter half to celebrate the summer with fireworks.
The Genshin Impact Summer Fantasia update also brings its usual story update, and that includes beats of Heizou. Teyvat’s young genius will debut with a new Hangout Event, and his buddy Kazuha gets new main story quest moments. We haven’t got our hands on Heizou just yet, but his kit reveal and leaks lend plenty of time for theorycrafting. Genshin Impact 2.8 Events – Summertime Odyssey
The Genshin Impact Summertime Odyssey event brings tons of new goodies, including a skin for four-star Electro bow-user, Fischl, and a chance to recruit her. During the HoYoverse Special Program, the developer revealed the return of Teyvat’s sailing game mode and other challenges. We’ve seen the boat quite a bit, but hey — Fischl skin reward.
In the PlayStation Blog preview, HoYoverse promised bigger rewards as the Golden Apple Archipelago gets a glow up. Specifically, your new go at Summertime Odyssey’s sailing endeavors should yield more new treasure chests. Characters like Xinyan, Mona, and Kazuha also accompany you along the islands, unlocking new story beats through puzzles and exploration.
The Waverider’s return comes with new co-op challenges, too. In Reminiscent Regimen, three game modes will present new ways for you and other online allies to take on escort challenges or defeat enemies. And, for those who played last year, you’ll recognize the conch hunt in Resonating Visions. Collect Echoing Conch shells, reveal the story, and the event shop should reward Fischl’s new skin.
A puzzle challenge, Evermotion Mechanical Painting, has players piecing together sets of gears. As the levels progress, challenges grow more complicated, but this leg of the summertime event season looks far more laidback than the seafaring journey.
Genshin Impact 2.8 – Diluc and Fischl Outfits
For the fashion fiends, HoYoverse is adding new skins with Version 2.8. No sweat here if you’re like me and always missing those Genshin Impact redemption codes. As long as you’re diligent about event quests, your Teyvat adventures this month will reward a free skin for Fischl. However, Diluc’s firey ‘fit will cost you pretty Primogem or two.
Red Dead of Night, Diluc’s new outfit, launches with a limited-time discount once the Summertime Fantasia update goes live. As one of the first playable characters, HoYoverse has created a bit of a spectacle. The Diluc skin sports a new idle animation, new effects, and a ponytail so powerful I’m crying over it. In addition, HoYoverse says the Diluc skin adds a bit of lore through the Hidden Strife event. There’s a little teaser of that in Genshin’s new Teyvat Style trailer.
The new Fischl skin, Ein Immernachtstraum, is the aforementioned event reward. Keep up with your Genshin Impact dailies, and the game should reward you with Fischl’s outfit and extra resources. While her new look may not call for premium currency, it’s still an adorable getup and welcomed refresh. If you don’t have the Electro bow-user, you can recruit Fischl in Version 2.8 for free. I’ve used her religiously since launch, and she’s an easy four-star ally to beef up and wreck with.
