Cuphead Goes on Sale Alongside Community Events For Second Anniversary

The game has now sold five million copies

Cuphead has reached two new milestones as of this week, and developer Studio MDHR has decided to make a thing of it with five days of giveaways and a sale for the sidescroller across all platforms. This week-long celebration is in honor of the game’s second anniversary, as well as its reaching five million sales across all systems and bundles.

As of Sunday, September 29, Cuphead is 20% off on PC, Xbox One, Mac, and the Nintendo Switch, bringing the $19.99 game to $15.99 on any device you choose. The sale will last until October 6.

Along with the sale, the company announced it would be holding giveaways on Twitter, as well as posting celebratory artwork of characters holding a party for the game’s second birthday, with the Devil, the big bad main antagonist characteristically stealing a piece of the cake while everyone else is trying to take a nice photo.

Cuphead originally launched on the Xbox One and Windows in 2017, with Microsoft having secured an exclusivity deal on the game for its platforms. Since then the company has gotten friendly with Nintendo, allowing the game to come to the Switch with included Xbox Live support back in April.

If five million sales didn’t already give you an idea of how much success Studio MDHR had seen with Cuphead, the company recently secured a deal with Netflix for an animated adaptation called The Cuphead Show! to debut on the streaming service. While there’s no concrete details on a release date, it has been confirmed that it will star the titular character and his brother Mugman and both creators Chad and Jared Moldenhauer are involved as executive producers. The Moldenhauers will be working alongside Dave Wasson, known for his work on the 2013 Mickey Mouse show and CJ Kettler, who recently worked with Netflix on the Carmen Sandiego reboot that debuted on the service earlier this year.
