Borderlands Developer Gearbox Developing Another Project with Take-Two

It appears to be one of Take-Two's new immersive core projects.

It’s financial results season! This time it’s Take-Two, which held an investor call to discuss its previous year earnings and crow about owning some of the biggest gaming properties in the world. Take-Two also took this time to talk a bit about the future, mentioning that a new project from Borderlands developer Gearbox is on the way.

CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that 21 new games are in development at Take-Two, with four being “immersive core” titles, and two of those being new IP. One of those immersive core titles is a new collaboration with Gearbox, says Zelnick, and is planned to launch within the financial year.

What makes this more notable is that Gearbox itself was recently acquired by THQ Nordic, the European zombie ghost of THQ that has been acquiring studios left and right. Gearbox acts as an independent arm within the company, which makes deals like this still possible. That said, if the game is coming out in this financial year, then it has been in the works for some time and it is hard to say how the THQ Nordic acquisition would affect projects not currently in the works.

Take-Two, for their part, remains confident that Gearbox is still tied to them as far as the Borderlands series is concerned and even cited Borderlands 3 as their fastest-selling title.
