Smash Ultimate sure gives its players their pick of space-faring, anthropomorphic animals. Wolf just happens to be one of the more villainous ones. If you couldn’t tell just by looking at him, he’s the evil counterpart to the Star Fox series’ Fox (since every Nintendo character needs an evil doppelganger). And, just like Falco, a lot of his moves mirror that more famous mammal. Still, Wolf has just enough to set him apart from a truly crowded pack.
Smash Ultimate sports 74 different playable characters at launch — including every single previous character from the super-franchise and a bunch of fresh faces. That’s not even including the glut of DLC fighters, assist trophies, and more. There’s so much that no one person could possibly keep track of everything. That’s why we’ve compiled a guide to every single character.

Wolf loves to claw and scratch his way to victory, which lends to his overall more “savage” fighting style. He has a blaster, just like Fox and Falco, but it comes with some significant differences — both mechanically and aesthetically.
According to Nintendo description of Wolf…
The leader of the Star Wolf mercenary team makes his grand return after 10 years! He puts his sharp claws to good use in wild attacks, and his Final Smash is an all-out attack by Team Star Wolf! If Fox or Falco is in the battle, you may hear a unique line of dialog.
Wolf Moves
Blaster (B) – Fires his Blaster quickly, or attacks close opponents with the claw-like blade on the Blaster.
Wolf Flash (Side + B) – Jumps upward diagonally and attacks nearby opponents. Has a meteor effect against airborne enemies if timed right.
Fire Wolf (Up + B) – Unleashes a jump kick that hits multiple times. Directional input can change the direction of the jump.
Reflector (Down + B) – Reflects projectiles with a shield. Takes longer than the version Fox uses, but it has greater power.
Team Star Wolf (Final Smash) – Wolf displays a targeting reticle in front of himself, which can lock on to opponents. If Wolf catches an opponent in the attack, his team shows up and aids him firing on the target.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
The Star Fox villain plays much like the protagonists. Wolf is an agile fighter with strong combo potential and great ways to close the gap. His differences are mild, as he has a slower but more powerful blaster and a more consistent Reflector. Really, it’s personal preference which Fox-like character you want to play.
Weaknesses
His drawbacks are also the same — those being predictable and weak recovery, and a susceptibility to getting comboed. Try to keep control of the match and stay on-stage, using your speed to your advantage.
Wolf Outfits
Wolf is big on high fashion. Both his coat, clothing, and accents change with each skin! And, naturally, he retains his signature eye patch in each version. Gotta stay edgy!
And there you have it. Wolf is another well-rounded character in the vein of Fox and Falco, but with enough differences to keep things special. You wouldn’t want the villain to be too similar to the hero, after all. We hope this guide sets you up with the right information to take him to the top of every competition!
