The King of the Monsters is making his way to Magic: The Gathering in spectacular fashion. Tied to the latest set – Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths — Godzilla and his fellow monsters will appear on cards as alternate art variations of existing cards. Announced during the Ikoria live stream, various monsters such as Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Rodan will be included in the Collector Boosters for this set. While this has paper players excited, Wizards of the Coast was quiet on if these special alternate art variations are coming to MTG Arena.
Are the Godzilla Cards Coming to MTG Arena?
Thankfully, a recent statement about one of the Godzilla card’s names confirms that these will be coming to MTG Arena. In the post, Wizards of the Coast addresses the name change of Spacegodzilla Death Corona, stating that “…we’ll be renaming the card on Magic: The Gathering Arena to Spacegodzilla, Void Invader.” This is the first acknowledgment of the Godzilla alternate arts for MTG Arena, so rest easy everyone as you’ll be able to smite your opponent with King Ghidorah very soon.
Unlike the paper copies which launch on May 15, Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths will release for MTG Arena on April 17. It’s unclear if the Godzilla Card Styles will be available at launch or if they will go the route of Nyx Lands and release a couple of weeks after the set goes live.
How to Get the Godzilla Card Styles
As of right now, the only way you can get the Godzilla Card Styles is by pre-ordering the Viven Pack Bundle in the store. Priced at $49.99, this bundle includes 50 Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Booster Packs, 1 Viven Monsters Advocate card, the Viven, Monsters Advocate Card style, Viven Tracker Sleeve, and 10 unknown Godzilla Card Styles. The bundle does not list which Godzilla Card Styles you will get, only that you’re guaranteed 10 of the 19 coming in this set. If you plan on investing a lot into Ikoria, this is a solid deal since 50 Booster Packs alone costs a little over 9,000 Gems.
Another method for getting the Card Styles is by purchasing bundles of Ikoria: Lair of Behemoth Booster Packs. These bundles must contain 6 or more Booster Packs for you to receive random Godzilla Card Styles. A recent blog post laid out how many cards you would get per packs purchased. Additionally, there is duplicate protection, meaning you won’t get the same Godzilla Card Style multiple times.
- 6 Packs: 1 Godzilla Series Monsters card style
- 15 Packs: 3 Godzilla Series Monsters card styles
- 45-Packs: 9 Godzilla Series Monsters card styles
- 90-Packs: 18 Godzilla Series Monsters card styles
Finally, players can earn these Godzilla Card Styles by participating in Ranked Draft, Traditional Draft, or Sealed Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths events. These will be given out as prizes regardless of how many wins or losses you suffer during the event. There’s no word on purchasing these as singles, so you’ll want to buy packs in bulk to unlock these Godzilla Card Styles.
