Diamond Dynasty mode in MLB The Show 21 can be incredibly daunting for new players. There are so many different modes to play, and your starting team is a bit underpowered if you want to get straight into multiplayer games. However, we have a few tips for new players which will help you get extra packs and grab shiny new players in the process. If you want to embrace your inner Tony La Russa and build your team into a powerhouse check out our tips below.
Log in Every Day
This might seem overly simplistic, but it’s worth mentioning. Every day, MLB The Show 21 gives you free players just for logging in. If you purchased the Jackie Robinson edition, this reward gets even better as you have access to Daily Doubles. That means every day you’ll get double the rewards.
While getting new players isn’t the same as getting packs, it does get you closer to the end goal of building a star-studded team. Sure, your chances of pulling a Diamond Mike Trout are slim to none, but you’d be surprised at the quality of players that come from your daily login. Plus, you can use the lower-rated players in either collections or exchanges and work your way toward some of the best players in the game.
If that’s not enough, every nine days you will get a free pack for logging in. Even if you don’t have the time to play games every day, it’s worth turning on your console for a minute or two to get the free rewards.
Complete Conquests
Conquests are a single-player mode in MLB The Show 21 that asks you to play a Risk-like version of baseball. Essentially, you have a certain number of fans that you use to claim territory on a large map. Your opponents will be doing the same, so you want to build up your territory and then expand it by beating the other teams in three-inning games of baseball.
It’s a great way to get in practice, but it also provides an easy way to get even more packs. Each map has a few tiles where you can gain hidden rewards. These are almost always either Stubs or Standard packs. Every once in a while though, you’ll find either a bundle of Standard packs or the higher tier “Ballin is a Habit” pack.
On top of that, you can complete the lengthy conquests that are tied to the current season pass. These give tens of thousands of experience points for the pass, which eventually leads to tons of packs and players.
Do All of the Moments You Can
Speaking of seasons, one of the best ways to fly up any of the many passes in MLB The Show 21 is to complete Moments. These are one-off scenarios that task you with completing a specific challenge to earn pass-specific currency.
As mentioned above, this currency will earn you various players and packs as you move through the ranks. For example, if you log in each day and do the May Daily Moments Challenges, you’ll eventually earn a 92 OVR Diamond Gary Sheffield. Granted, there are far better players out there, but by doing a relatively simple challenge each day, you’ll improve your lineup quickly.
Consider Team Affinities
Another way to add players and packs is to work on your Team Affinities. These passes are division-specific, which lets you focus on players you really want. For example, if you’re a massive Blue Jays fan, you can go work on the AL East Affinity and earn yourself an 88 OVR Diamond Bo Bichette.
These aren’t as lucrative as some of the other passes, but you can target a player you want and earn them relatively quickly. San Diego Studios updates these periodically throughout the season, so it’s worth paying attention to the changes as we move through the year.
Just Play
Again, we know this is a bit of a “duh” tip, but playing MLB The Show 21 really is the best way to get packs. We’ve mentioned it several times so far, but you get a truckload of packs as you move through the different passes.
We recommend sticking with the current seasonal program when you’re starting. Overall, this one gives the best pack rewards. For example, with the 2nd Inning Program, you’ll get several great player pick packs, including a Live Series Diamond player at the end of the pass. Additionally, you’ll wrack up nearly 50 packs as you go.
Yes, moving up the season pass takes time, but you can earn experience toward it in any game mode. So, even if you’re playing with your Road to the Show player or working your way through March to October, you’ll constantly be moving up the ranks.
If you follow these tips, you should be well on your way to stacking your club full of top players. Obviously, there’s a degree of luck with packs, but you can use even the worst cards in MLB The Show 21 to help build toward better players. You’ll also be accruing tons of Stubs while you play, which you can use to buy specific players off of the market. Now that you have a better idea of what it takes to build a star-studded lineup, get out there and play ball.
